Hi,

I adopted "Aphrodite" now known as "Puss N Bootz" from the Humane Society of Huron Valley last July (2007).  She has grown into a healthy and lovable companion.  I visited her for about two weeks before I decided to adopt, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. She was small and extremely thin when I brought her home, but she has grown considerably and put on a good amount of weight.  She has a ton of energy and absolutely loves hanging out in the sun on the balcony of our apartment. She greets everyone who walks in the door and starts purring the moment someone touches her.  She has brought so much happiness and humor into my life.  I would recommend the HSHV to anyone looking for an animal companion.

Thanks for everything that you guys do!

-Caitlin

Good Afternoon:

Just a quick note to say we love "Angelina the couch potato" She was extremely tired the first couple of days, and is still working off a major sleep/sad state, but breakthrough occurred yesterday! When we came home she gave kisses galore and actually played with us! She has eaten great and just to let you know she's not much of a coach potato, she Loves her walks! She gets 2 every day! Her and her brothers Charlie the shepherd and Blue the cattle dog are getting along great, but the poor cat is getting chased a lot.

Thank you from the bottom of ours hearts for she is truly a blessing!

Hi,

We adopted our 2-year old kitty Fatty (originally named Cassie) about 2 months ago and have enjoyed her as a member of our family. She's soft and squishy, and loves to cuddle, but also enjoys watching birds out the window and playing with bright objects.

Getting her has been a phenomenally positive experience, and one we would recommend to anyone!

Thank you for our "Che" aka "Skeeter"

Hello from Chicago,
I just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful addition to our family and to all of the informative people we talked to at your facility.

Our dog was very unexpected and truly needed! (stress reliever/ walking buddy/teddy bear)
He lights up our days/nights and I'm not exaggerating!  In Thanksgiving 2007 during our annual holiday visit to Michigan, we came in with our entire family for our Grams to see if you had a very small adult lap dog for her, but instead my family instantly had a connection with a pitt bull puppy, named Skeeter. We were not in the market for a pet, let along a puppy pitt bull. I was very reluctant!

I was scared of dogs and the thought of pitts as a bully breed made me apprehensive. We were only in town for the weekend and each day we woke up thinking of this pup (we came to the Humane Society 3 days in a row). Deep in my heart I knew I could not deny my husband, daughter, and I of this experience. I think he chose us, as much as we chose him.

We have since changed his name to "Che" aka Zen-Master (I am now a dog-person). We think of him as the SWEETEST dog we have yet to meet. We are so grateful to be apart of his life, to watch him develop confidence, and experience new things is wonderful for us to watch. He is so appreciative.

I am so glad that I choose to jump in and overcome my fears. In life we're faced with lots of obstacles and choices, most come to you unexpectedly and the ones you grow from the most are the ones that are the most challenging. For me, the first week or two were truly a challenge. I did not want my friends, neighbors, and strangers to brand me a pitt bull owner and be afraid. I did not want to be labeled!

Now I feel blessed that,

1. I have a dog who loves my family and I unconditionally and

2. he is a pitt bull!!

They are the best!! Smart! Loyal! and Beautiful!! inside and out!!
Were definitely going to get a second pup (pitt bull, of course) in a year or two, after we have given our Che lots and lots of love, by himself, he deserves it!!

We will make sure we come in for a visit with Che.

Thank you so much,
Jina, Mick, and Joyce

Hi:

We adopted Pigeon last weekend and he is doing GREAT!!! He hasn't stopped purring, we love that he coo's like a Pigeon.  He has adapted well to our other cat Pepper they are like two peas in a pod.  They play all day and night.  We even catch them cleaning each other and sleeping together.  We are so excited to have Pigeon part of our family.  Here are a few pictures to share.

We think you are doing a wonderful job, everyone at the facility was super friendly and it was great to see so many volunteers.  Keep up the good work.  We look forward to visiting you soon.

Hi:

Wanted to email you guys at Huron Valley and let you know how Gilbert is doing. I adopted him back in March and he is doing great. He is a happy little kitty, but of course he is not little anymore  - he is now a big, fat kitty who loves attention and will let you know when he wants it too! He sleeps with me every night and will wake me up in the morning with his meowing.

I love him dearly and I am so glad that I adopted him.

Love,

Shelley C.

Dear Happy Tails,

This past fall my family adopted an adult male cat named Felix from HSHV. Felix seemed a little disoriented at first seeing as he broke through the screen in one of our windows and slipped out in the middle of the night! After a few days Felix finally came around and happily trotted back into our home. We originally were looking for a friend for our orange feline and even though we read that Felix wasn't know for his cat social skills we had a good feeling about him, and we were right. He is extremely affectionate and loves to play with our other cat. Felix was the perfect addition to our family and we love him dearly. His quirky personality and playful nature brightens our household everyday. Thank you for connecting us with Felix and I hope other families can find a pet that completes their family just as Felix completes ours.

Sincerely,
The Buckley Family

Dear HSHV,

We adopted Buddy from your shelter in August of 2007.  As soon as we saw him on PetFinder, we knew he was the one for us, and it turns out we were right!  Buddy and Adam bonded instantly, and Adam can’t even go to the bathroom without Buddy following him.  Buddy also loves his new puggle sister, and we always find them laying together, her curled up next to him with her head on his belly.  We love this dog and he is an essential part of our little family now.  We couldn’t thank you more for saving him and helping to make this wonderful match.

P.S.- he was a horrible walker, and the harness you sold us helped a little.  We have since gotten him a Gentle Leader head collar, and it has worked miracles (just a tip!)

Thank you,

Tracy and Adam

I adopted Kaysee (formerly known as sadie) about 1 1/2 years ago. She is a chocolate lab.  Kaysee is about 8-9 years old - we are unsure because she was a stray.  Kaysee has made a wonderful life not only for herself but for many of the elderly at an extended care facility that I work at in Whitmore Lake.  She is such a sweet and loving dog that she is now or facility therapy dog.  People just light up when she comes visiting, we get responses from people that usually have little or nothing to say. Two days a week she puts on her fancy bandana and her name tag and off to work we go. When she is not visiting residents she quietly lays next to my chair in my office on her blanket.  We all love Kaysee very much and she has made many people happy.

Thank you for our little ray of sunshine.

Tina C.

Hi:

We adopted Sydney in February of 2007.  She is a pitador/labrabull mix.  The fact that pushed us over the edge was that her brother was going home that day and she was going to be lonely.  We brought home a tiny little puppy; now we have an 85lbs lap-dog.  She is very prissy in the way that she will walk around the puddles on the sidewalk, but she does love the snow which is good for living in michigan.  She enjoys curling up with you on the couch with the blanket and toys.

She is enjoying her new home. We have adopted all of our animals form the HVHS and plan to keep it this way.

Thank you so much

Dear HSHV,

One Sunday in August, 2007 we went to the Huron Valley Humane Society to get two kittens.  We wandered through the facility – no kittens.  We weren’t too sure we wanted older cats until we met Jeffrey and Aaron; 6 and 7 years olds that had been raised in the same home.  When Andra called to Jeffrey he head-butted her forehead.  When Scott finally coaxed Aaron out of the box where he was hiding, after just a few minutes he rolled over for a belly rub!

We took them home and they immediately hid.  Jeffrey was the first one to come out and check out his new home.  Aaron, the shy one, took over a week.  It has been nine months since we brought them home and we love them so much!  Every morning Aaron likes to lay in our pedestal sink and let water drip on him.  Jeffrey then climbs up and gives Aaron a bath!  Then they will hop on the guest bed and curl up together for naps.

Jeffrey and Aaron are very affectionate cats, both to us and each other.  This picture was taken one evening when Aaron and Jeffrey were on our living room sofa.  They climbed up, held “hands” and gave each other a bath.  They clearly love each other and we love having them with us.

We hope they are with us for many years!

Andra and Scott Anteau

Hi:

My son and I adopted "Joe" as we now call him in December of 2007. My son is actually the one who decided on which cat we were to bring home and it turns out he made an excellent selection. Joe is doing very well, and the two of them are like two peas in a pod. They spend a lot of time together! Joe has also gained a feline brother Dusty (who was also a shelter adopted cat from long ago). They get along very well and having Joe has helped Dusty adjust to my new work schedule. Both the boys are at the door to greet us when we get home and they like to share the bed at night (except that sometimes it becomes a wrestling match!).

I think that Joe thinks he is a dog sometimes, he will chase balls and sometimes bring them back! He loves Barbecue chips and french fries (although he gets very few!) and he likes to share my milk after cereal. We are very happy that Joe has come into our lives and he makes a great addition to our little family.

Thanks to all of you who cared for Joe during his stay at the shelter.

Noelle

Hi,

A few years ago, I adopted a young cat named Jordan from your shelter. She loves to nap on my chair when I leave for work in the morning. I call her my queen.

Thank you,

Hi folks at HSHV:

Luis (formerly “Pepe”), now 6 1/2 months old, is completely comfortable with us.  He is a loving, energetic, companion, and we can’t keep our eyes and hands off him!  He has grown 60% in weight, now at 8.4 lbs.  I wanted to make a photo study of his beautiful golden eyes, and caught this one as he faced the big window.  Mommy made a noise in the kitchen just as I snapped the picture, so his ears rotated back as he rewarded me with this fleeting expression of kitty puzzlement.

Regards,

Gene Curry

Losing two precious kitties in one month was a heartbreak so Cindy and Debbie of HSHV got to work immediately helping me. Within four days, on March 1, Chipper (aka Lysander) came home and in another 17 days it was Cindy Sue (aka Madeline). After playing footsies under the bedroom door for a week, Chipper was delighted to learn that Cindy's extravagant tail looked like a feather toy. Delicate Cindy, only half his weight, decked him until he got the hint two days later. Since then they have become best of friends, enjoying the finer moments of life: mutual grooming, turboball, catnip, and birdwatching. Chipper has the pink nose and Cindy Sue the patch on her muzzle.

My heart sings again!

Hello,

We adopted Stella right around Valentine's Day of this year. She's a lab mix, a little less than a year old (she was found as a stray so no one knows for sure). At the shelter she was very excitable, almost too much so, and difficult to control.

We're so glad we took a chance on her! She's a sweet and loving addition to our family. She's all retriever and will chase the ball all day, and she loves to accompany us on runs through Gallup Park and around the neighborhood. She's very curious and isn't afraid of anything... not even the helicopters at Survival Flight (she's more interested in chasing the leaves that they blow around).

Thanks to Helen and everyone at HSHV for helping us adopt our perfect puppy.

To Our Friends at HSHV:

We adopted Allie (whose name at the shelter was Olisa) on 1/7/08.  I'm happy to report that she has settled in nicely to her new home and has gotten used to her dog brother, Kevin.

Allie especially enjoys batting at Kevin's tail and, like a typical little sister, she enjoys annoying him by tapping him repeatedly in order to wake him up. The picture here is of Allie and Kevin.

She loves cuddling, playing with all her new toys, and sleeping with us at night.  We'd like to say Thank You to everyone at HSHV for the great job that you did taking care of Allie during her time at the shelter.

You are truly wonderful people!

Thanks Again!  Matt, Emily, Kevin and Allie

Hello,

My husband, Jeff & I adopted Purrdie on March 14.  I had heard about her when she was on 107.1's "Pet of the Week" show.  We had recently lost both of our cats to cancer in the space of a few months and while we knew another cat couldn't replace the ones we lost, we also had room in our home and lives for a kitty in need.

I contacted the foster family so we could meet Purrdie -- who just looked so darling on the web site (loved her video).  The foster father was VERY cooperative about letting us bring our dog, Erin, to meet Purrdie.  Our dog was very used to cats, so we weren't worried about her so much as Purrdie's reaction.  If she was anti-dog, then we didn't see a future with her.

But, Purrdie reacted as well as one could hope a cat would, upon meeting a dog.  She wasn't thrilled, but neither was she terrified.  So, after having a chance for Jeff & I to spend a little time just the three of us, we were charmed and decided to take Purrdie home.

She is so wonderful!  It's only been two weeks and she has run of all the rooms of the house and is getting along very well with Erin.  I am just amazed at how well she has adjusted and seems to take the new environment in stride.  She fits into our family as though she's been with us for a very long time!

There are all sorts of things that are endearing, but the one thing that I enjoy most is how confident she is of herself and how much she trusts us.  We like to play together in the living room, as it has the most room for running -- the picture of her with the paper bag is in the living room.  When she wants to play, she comes up to myself or Jeff, meows and LEADS us into the room!  :)  It's just great.  We decided to rename her Cinder, because of the neat white and silver portions of her coat.

In addition to how wonderful she is doing, I have to say I'm very proud of Erin.  She handled being excluded from areas of the house, and the fact Jeff & I divide our time between her and Cinder, but is so patient!  She is very gentle with Cinder and longs to sniff and follow her around.  But, she is excellent about giving Cinder her space and they are really building their own level of trust.

We are just so glad we found her and thank you for her being found by you all -- and we are particularly thankful to her foster father.  She is a great cat because she had great people watching over her.

Sincerely,
Jennifer & Jeff Matthews

Hi Everyone!

Well, I think I am going to like my new home. My mom takes me for long walks and they have a very big yard! There are some things (my mom calls them geese) that like to honk at me! I have a new couch to lounge on - it is blue and very comfy! I have my own special room with a very big couch (my mom calls it a Futon!) and we like to lounge together and watch my TV - I think I like the Animal Planet the best! Guess what! My Dad let me out on this patio thing (upper level patio deck) where I can be King of all I survey!!! All this new excitement has really made me tired! I need to rest up now! Thanks for finding me a good home - I miss everyone!

Love - Flash

PS - It is very quiet here! I think there are some dogs that live next door because I talked to them last night!

We adopted Jedediah (formerly Russo) about 2 months ago. He has been a joy to have, and transitioned well into our lives. He really likes living close to the park, and we take him everyday. He has just gotten used to the water, and hopefully this summer we can teach him to retrieve ducks for me. He also has made quick friends with our pet rabbit, and they often play around the house together. Thank you so much for him.

God Bless,
Craig, Julie, and Jed

Here is Lucky "Before & After"!

This weak we had spring break and brought him to a place called "Play and Stay.

Lucky enjoyed that a lot! It is so much having a dog. He is so playful and loves tummy rubs.

I am so glad we picked him!

Hi HSHV family:

I adopted Chiclet on March 3rd. She is now running the household and doing great. She is the sweetest little cat. She likes to sit on the window sill and watch the outdoors. She also loves to watch me work on the computer. She is making it hard to type right now. Thanks for the great adoption. I'll be back in for a dog in the future.

Jake Update:

We took Jake aka Joey home (the yellow tabby) in 2001.  He hadn’t been in the shelter very long, but was said to be an escape artist, often found in the dog rooms eating their food (he eats KC’s too).  He’s lived up to his reputation, and has weighed as much as 30 pounds.  Jake had been in two homes before he came to live with us, and had some issues with biting and eating anything cloth like.  After some rough times of biting repair men on their ankles and eating the fringe off of rugs and throws, he’s become a model citizen.  Logan (rescued from the Ann Arbor Cat Clinic) joined us in November of 2004.

K.C. aka Spuds (dog) joined our family in September of 2006.  He had been running along the highway when he was brought in, so we had no information regarding his background.  He’s a bright sensitive guy, and once we put the wire fencing in front of the picket fence he’s no longer running along the sidewalks.  I guess we have escape artists in both our HSHV furry animal friends.

For a couple with no animals before, we’ve become a happy family of five, and we thank the Humane Society for brightening up our lives in such a wonderful way.

Hi:

Well, Harry Muppet is now known as Wolfgang Amadogus Mozbark "Wolfie."  He is SO SWEET and HAPPY and is loved by all the teenage girls who swarm over him and pamper him, and everyone else who meets him.  We adopted this charming 10-year old fellow March 9, 2008.

Thanks for bringing us together,

Roxanne, Hayley, Chelsea and Lynette

Hi:

We adopted Shani (now "Jasmine") a "lab mix" in February 2008.  She has adapted to home life wonderfully.  She is great with the other animals and the kids and training is going great.  Out of curiousity we had DNA testing done to find out what breed(s) she was.  The results came back that she is mostly German Shorthaired Pointer and Rottweilier with a slight trace of Bull Mastiff.  We couldn't have asked for a better puppy!

3-4-08

We adopted Engelbert Humperdink, now called 'Bertie the Cat" on March 3, 2008.  He has adjusted wonderfully, recovered very well from his neutering, and is a purring machine!  He's just a big fur ball of lovin' - thanks so much to the Humane Society of Huron valley for their guidance and dedication!  Keep up the wonderful work.

Sincerely,

Colleen & Barry

Hello to all the wonderful people and pets at the Humane Society of Huron Valley!

I adopted "Little Mia" in December, 2007.  I knew we were meant to be together, not only because we have the same name, but because we share some of the same interest . . . walking on nice days, going to the dog park, eating, and just being together!

Although "Little Mia" was recently sick and had to have surgery, she is doing much better now and happy to be home with her mommy!    Mia sends her love to all of you, for taking care of her in her time of need!

Thank you for introducing us, we have become great buddy's!!!

Hi to everyone at the Humane Society of Huron Valley!

We adopted Shadow, the 6 year old black/white Corgi-Lab mix (our precious "corgee-dor" as we call him).  We just wanted to update you all on how he's doing with us. We renamed him "Captain", and he is responding well to his new name. His favorite things to do are relax on his favorite chair, snuggle =), play with his toys, and sniff around in the woods behind my apartment. He is soooo smart! He is an excellent running companion.

Captain has been the PERFECT addition to our lives. He is the perfect compromise between the type, size, and demeanor of the dog Matt and I had discussed about adopting.
Captain is absolutely charming, 100% affectionate, a little sweetheart, and a well behaved doggy! WE LOOOOOOOVE HIM! He may be a little older, but he is a puppy at heart and we have a blast with him. I suspect he is thoroughly enjoying his new home too =)! He receives lots of love and attention.

Once again, thank you ALL so much for helping us adopt our little Cappy, and we will definitely be back in the future when we are ready to adopt again!

We hope all your little adoptees find homes that love them as much as we love our Captain!

All our love,
Captain, Michelle, and Matt

Hello:

We adopted Vicky as a 9-week old puppy in August of 2006, so she is now over 2 1/2 years old. We have so much fun with her. She sleeps between us and is a pretty big bed hog, as she likes to be touching both of us.

We take a 1 1/2 to 2 mile walk every day (it's a power walk when it's really cold!). Lots of days we drive to the park so she can see and sniff other dogs. This picture is of Vicky resting. Vicky also loves snow, and will chase snowballs as long as your arm holds out!

Hi:

This is Trixie at the Lake Michigan beach in the summer of 2007.  I adopted Trixie in November, 1998 from HVHS when she was about five-months old.  Since then, she's been my camping buddy.  We affectionately call Trixie "The Brain."  The night before heading to the camp, Trixie knows what's up.  As soon as I grab my old tennis shoes and van keys, she starts to "talk".

Trixie loves all the people at the campground.  She has a special "route" when we let her explore.  The route stops are to all the people that offer her treats.  She especially loves runs on the beach along the lake with her other adopted siblings Maggie, Ringo and Snoopy.

Thank you all for bringing Trixie and me together.

Sincerly,

R. Higgerson

Hi,

Thought I'd give you a quick update on Achilles.  His new name is Siddhartha or "Sid" (top right) .

I brought him home 8-Jan-08 as a new companion cat for Peggy Sue (bottom right) after the passing away of Buddy Holly last Oct (he was my cat companion of 14 years).  Wanting to keep with the musical artist theme, I nicknamed him Sid (after Sid Barrett the original guitarist for Pink Floyd) and his full name is the name of the Buddha prior to his walking the road to self enlightenment.

Siddhartha is a really cool cat who always has something to

say and is getting settled in to his new home.  I've kept him sequestered in a spare bedroom with a  screen across the door so he and Peggy Sue can get acquainted without having direct physical contact.  Peggy Sue was hesitant at first, but lately she has been sneaking into his room to check out this chatty guy (sometimes I swear he sounds like James Cagney).

Peggy Sue came to me from HSHV some years ago to be Buddy's companion once I bought my home, so I was seeking an older cat so she (and I) would not have to train a kitten the rules of the household.  So that's two loving cats I have had the good fortune to get to have around.

Hello!

We adopted Abby from the shelter back in September 2007. What a joy she has been so far! She's so smart, she loves anything that challenges her, so we have taught her a lot of basic obedience and fun tricks. Everyone we meet always comments on how well-behaved she is. She loves getting baths, chewing on bones, playing tug-of-war, and she can never turn down a toy that squeaks. We've even taught her how to open doors!

Abby has two Golden Retriever "cousins" that she plays with all the time, and she loves going to PetSmart's Doggie Day Camp to play all day with other dogs!

Thank you for bringing such a wonderful pup into our lives! We can't imagine our lives without her.

My husband and I adopted our cat Leo (formerly known as Mr. Potato Head!) from HSHV in January 2008, and we just wanted to let you know he is doing great. He quickly made himself at home with us and loves to sit on our laps (as well as the laps of anyone else who comes by to visit). He loves chasing the red dot from his laser pointer toy all over the living room and shows off all kinds of acrobatic moves when he plays with his feather wand toy. He even comes to the door to greet us when we come home! He is a very sweet and friendly cat and loves getting his big jowly cheeks scratched. We are SO happy we adopted him, and Leo has become a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you so much, HSHV!

Sincerely,
Grace and Tony

Hello:

Rocky came to us as "Drake" but as a pom-chihuhua mix we felt he needed a stronger name- hence Rocky-short for Rock Star. My daughter spotted him when we walked into the Shelter and attached herself to his cage for what must have seemed like hours as we worked through the adoption process. We were told that a family had dropped him off just that morning as their son had developed an allergy to the dog...and that originally he had been bought at a pet shop in Novi. We still wondered about his roots...what his "parents" looked like etc. but most likely that will always remain a mystery.

He has succeeded in the past two years in winning our hearts 100%. My husband wasn't convinced that we needed another dog- we already had a beautiful aging beagle, Joy...but my daughter felt otherwise. She wanted a dog to call her own. We decided to take a ride to visit the dogs at the Humane Society- just to "look". Well, that "look" turned immediately to love at first sight. We filled out an application, answered a lot of questions, and even brought Joy in for a meeting with her new future roommate. (They hardly paid attention to each other- a perfunctory sniff and then on to other fun things in the yard.) Eventually, we were approved and Rocky came home with us that day...although we promised to, and later did that week, bring him in to be "fixed".

Now my daughter has moved away having started her own family. Joy died a year ago December...and Rocky has moved in the Numero Uno position. He has surely made an indelible mark on my husband and myself. He sleeps on our bed and has an "apartment" that he made for himself UNDER the bed where he stores all of his toys. All of our friends adore Rocky as he is such a lover boy. When you walk into the house he hurtles himself at you- eager to love and be loved. He adores trips to the "Dog park" where he may be the smallest one there...but he is almost always the fastest. He runs circles around the other dogs and get them stirred up each time we go.

I could go on and on...(and I feel like I have!) but I just wanted to sincerely thank you at the Humane Society of Huron Valley for enriching our lives more than we can say.

Dear HSHV,

Almost 2 months ago my friend Kelly and I came into the shelter to have her 13 yr.old cat "Jake" put to sleep because of health problems the vet could not treat. We both were really sad from the time we left and still today that we lost such a good friend. A few days later we decided to get a new friend for our other cat Tammmy who came home with us from the shelter last June. After looking at all the cages we both fell in love with a small gray and white cat named "Miss Moo". We had to take her home with us that day. Now named "Tia Mia" she doing great in her new home. She loves attention, treats, toys.

Thanks for 2 Great Friends!

Hi,
I just wanted to tell you how wonderful the last 18 years have been with our adopted pets.

Yes - that's 18 years.

In August 1990 we came to the shelter looking for a playmate for our cat. We fell in love with a calico kitten and brought her home the next day. Her name is Mustang and she's doing great. We've since had to put to sleep our original cat, but quickly got another playmate (from a friend) for Mustang. They have been best buddies since the day we brought Mercury home. Then about 7 years ago, we were visiting the shelter and just had to have Princess, the little Beagle mix in the puppy room. She was listed as 11 months old and was possibly overlooked because she wasn't a little puppy. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. All our pets get regular checkups and the vets can't believe Mustang is nearly

18.

Mustang is still quite lively and will often run around the house chasing an imaginary mouse. Princess, at 8 years old, still acts like a puppy. Everyday when we get home, she jumps up to give us "Welcome Home" kisses.

Even after our 4-5 mile walk/run, she's ready to go again. We've been back to the shelter looking for a playmate for Princess and when we're ready, we'll definitely chose one from HSHV.

Thank you !

Dear HSHV:

I adopted Lois back in October 2007 (in the shelter she was called Veronica). She has been the nicest cat. It only took her a couple of weeks to get adjusted and to find her own spots in the apartment. She even adapts well to road trips, being the only cat I've ever known happy to ride in a car. She doesn't get to go out much, but she seems happy enough in the space she lives in and hasn't begged to be let outside in months.

She's also turned out to be strangely smart. She's taken to patting me on the side or shoulder when she wants my attention, and I've found a few sounds I can make to have her come to me. And she's taken to reorganizing my desk by pushing small objects around with her paw.

I'm grateful that y'all found her when you did so I could adopt her. She's been my best friend since I got her, and she seems to be pretty happy with me, too.

When I came into the shelter looking for a pal, I almost missed my little Beast (who went by Frankie back then), because his cage mate was sitting on top of him. Luckily for both of us, we found each other!

Beast is about 7 months old now and is the ruler of his house. He loves to run around at top speed and play with his favorite toy, a stuffed octapus. As his vet says, he has a VERY big personality to go with his name, and demands attention whenever possible! But his hyperness runs out at night when he is always snuggled up right next to me purring.

Thank you for taking care of my Beast buddy so he could come home to me!

We adore our three pets that have all been adopted for HSHV. Over time they have all become very good friends - even if they do still end up chasing each other every now and then.  We love them all very much and are happy that we gave them another chance at a good life.  Their names are Meow Meow (cat), Whiskey (big dog), and Hunter (little guy on the floor).

Thank you HSHV!

Hello,

I adopted Henry and Dodger in July of 2006.  They became apart of my family quickly and learned to rule the home.  They were both so tiny and lovable.  They began to grow and their personalities showed.  Henry (black kittie) is smart and needs attention all day and night.  Dodger (gray kittie) is a mommy's boy and scared of everything.  They have grown to such beautiful and wonderful additions to my family. I am so happy that they choose me to be their human. There are some pictures below of them.

Thank you,

Andrea

Hello:

Luis (Pepe) is about as happy as a cat can be. He is completely secure and has everything to spoil him. We are thankful that he was loved and protected before we met him. When we arrived home with him, he began purring as we carried him from the car to the house, and he purred loudly all the time he was exploring his new digs.

Thanks to you all.

When I first started volunteering as a dog-walker at HSHV, I wasn't planning to adopt a dog - until I met Kari.  I fell in love with her happy, energetic personality and introduced her to the dog I already had at home.  She's now my beloved bouncy girl - totally spoiled and loving every minute of it.  She loves running in the yard, playing with her agility equipment (she's got quite a vertical leap!), her rawhides and squeaky toys.  And when the weather's nice and I take her and her doggie "brother" for a walk, they play a fun game of "braid the leashes around Mommy's legs".

About this time of year in 2000, I went looking for a canine companion. My first stop was at HSHV, and I immediately found the squirmy little thing I had been looking for. His name was Lonnie, but he now goes by Drizzt.

Drizzt is a chow/lab mix, mostly black, and he has been a very loyal friend. He had been left to fend for himself in someone's apartment, leaving him with severe separation anxiety, so the first couple of years were rough. He had some bad habits, but he is now, after much training and patience, a dog any pet parent would be proud to keep. He even comes to me to snitch when one of the other dogs has been naughty!

Thank you for the most loveable furball in my life!

Hi

First - thank you , thank you , thank you!

I cannot say enough about our new friend. Sayah has been a welcome addition to our family,we have no regrets and she took to the kids from first site. Sayah loves her new house and yard. Everyone at HSHV already knew that she knew many commands but guess what? She is working on hand signals - I don't have to say anything to her. All she wants to do is please us.

Now let me say thank you to the staff at HSHV - you where vary helpful with all your information. I will refer anyone to you. Sayah is now in a safe and loving home!

Hello!

We would like to share the happy tail of Gwen, who was also known as Pepper.  Gwen loves living in Livonia with her family and cat buddies Toby and Mo (who was also adopted from the Humane Society of Huron Valley).  Gwen and Toby love to horseplay and chase each other around the house.  Toby is also very fond of swatting Gwen's tail.  They are so inseparable, that when Gwen leaves the house to go for a walk, Toby cries and searches the house for Gwen.  Speaking of walks, Gwen enjoys going on a four mile walk every Saturday and Sunday.  Gwen has a new enclosed backyard and her new hobby is playing in the snow.  Gwen just recently graduated from Petsmart's Beginners Class and is still trying to remember what she learned.  Gwen celebrated her 1st birthday of November 30, 2007.  We can't wait to spend many more years with her.

Thanks for all that you do!

Hi,

I adopted my cat Andromeda this past September, and I just wanted to give an update on how she's doing. She adapted easily to my home, spending only a few hours behind the couch before surfacing to sit on my lap. We are now best of buds and always enjoy each other's company!
Some of her favorite things to do are watch movies on my lap, chase hair ties around the house, and follow me from room to room waiting for me to stop and pet her. Thank you so much for helping me find my perfect kitty!
