Dear HVHS,

I know that it seemed I was never going to find the perfect home, but have no fear!  My third home has taken me in and I have grown to love them!  They take me to the park every day so that I can meet other dogs, and run and play with them.  Their friends even have a Leonberger, who is my best friend, and came from HSHV, too!  Oh, and the park we go to has a river that I can go into whenever I want!  They even took me on a boat, and got me a lifejacket so I could swim for my toys!  It's going great.  I live with two cats, one who came from HSHV, and we get along fine.  I get real excited and wag my tail really hard whenever I see other people.

Gotta go take a nap now: that's what we bulldogs love best!

Love,
Bones (formerly Switch,Doby)

We adopted Willy on July 9, 2010. He is a 6 year old Whippet that had been in a crate at a Puppy Mill for 6 years. He was never socialized and was so scared of everything for the first week or so. We would have to pull him out of his crate to get him to go outside. Four weeks later he is coming out of his shell and having fun playing with toys and running with our other Whippet in the back yard.

At first he would not even move when you put him on a leash, but  now he enjoys daily walks on a leash. My wife is doing her part in spoiling him by giving him chicken breast and Woofer Peanut Butter cookies every night as a bed time snack.

He is still timid, but he is so much better than when we got him. We would like to thank everyone at the HSHV for the wonderful job that they do in rescuing these beautiful animals, and if you get a chance adopt a Whippet! They are truly wonderful companions.

Dear HSHV,

I adopted a couple of adorable black kittens a couple of weeks ago from the humane society, Bianca and Brooksy (previously named Marge and Rabbit.)

Both of them are doing fantastically.  They love to snuggle and and chase each other all over the house.  Thanks for letting me bring these beautiful babies into my home!

Best,

Sarah

Hi

I adopted Cammi April 9 2010, four months ago. I had been pet-less for close to 8 months. I have renamed her Sylvia.

It took her about two hours to feel at home. I love having her here. She makes cute little humming noices a lot. She spends a lot of time in the window sills.

She loves watching the birds, chipmonks and squirrels at my feeders. Her favorite toy is the ring from the top of the milk gallon. She likes to play fetch with it especially at bedtime. Sylvie is the first cat Ive had that likes belly rubs. She is perfect in every way. She comes out on the porch with me while I drink my morning coffee but is never left unattended.

This is my second adoption from HSHV, no regrets.

On February 26, 2006, my husband and I were adopted by the puppy love of our lives, Jody (nee "Judy").  She was literally the first dog I made eye contact with at HSHV and I knew instantly she was "the one" for us.  She has been our constant companion, ready to go on a roadtrip at the drop of a hat, so helpful around the house by taking any plastic bottles to the recycle bin and just being an amazing dog in general from day one.

With Jody rapidly approaching five years of age, my husband and I have been talking about adopting another dog to help keep Jody young.  Like everything else in our lives, we believe that if it's meant to be, it'll happen.  So, on Saturday, July 24, 2010, we went back to HSHV to see if there was any possibility of lightening striking twice.  And, lo and behold, we saw Lizzie (nee "Girl").  We had seen her on petfinders.com's website a few weeks earlier and had thought she was so cute!  Luckily for us, she was still there and the attraction was mutual.  We took her for a walk and we were absolutely smitten!  The next hurdle she had to pass was whether she was kitty friendly or not as we have an 18 year old cat.  Of course, she passed that test with flying colors!  So now we had to go home and get Jody for the final, and ultimately most important, test.  As with everything in life, Jody never ceases to amaze us!  She and Lizzie got along famously from the get-go and as you can see by the picture, two weeks on and they're acting like they've known each other all their lives.  (Lizzie is on the left -- with the red collar -- and Jody is on the right.)  It truly makes our hearts smile!  Thank you HSHV for giving us TWO puppy loves!

My husband and I adopted Flossy (Jean Bee) about a month ago. When we visited the shelter, we asked Bonnie which cats had been in the shelter the longest, were the oldest or were most in need of a home. She introduced us to a handful of cats, but we didn't feel connected to any until we got to Flossy. She instantly ran up to us to lick our fingers and rub up against us. We learned that she had been at the shelter for a very long time and was beginning to get depressed. Coming in, we weren't too keen on long-haired cats and, sadly, almost passed her by despite how sweet she was. So, we decided to "sleep on it" for a couple of days before making a final decision. When we came back, we went directly to Flossy's cage and committed to bringing her to her "Forever Home". We are so lucky to have found such an amazing cat! Within hours of coming home she had already made herself comfortable, and was not at all shy when meeting our friends and family for the first time. She loves to be around us and never leaves our side when we are around. If we are on the computer, she chases the mouse. If we are watching a movie, she watches with us. If we are eating, she sits at our feet. If we are walking, she follows close behind. If we are sleeping, she snuggles up in our arms. And if we are just sitting, she curls up on our lap. She faithfully waits at the door for us to come home from work and greets us (for several minutes) with leg rubs and loud purrs.

She is everything we wanted in a cat and more.. and we feel incredibly lucky to have found such a friendly, adoring cat. Enclosed is a photo of her with her new haircut.. Flossy absolutely ADORES having short hair and loves prancing around to show it off! Thanks for helping us find our perfect kitty!

Hi HSHV!  I'm sending a picture of Hemingway, generally known around this house as Ernie, and his new buddy Bob Gray.  Ernie is joyful every single day to have a kitty "bro" and a daddy who loves him.

Thank you for helping to make our family complete!

Yours truly,

This is our beautiful Pit Bull, Lars.  Someone at the shelter gave him that name, as he was found without tags.  I couldn't be more thankful to the people that brought him into HSHV and allowed him to become a part of my life.  I entered the shelter with the intention of just "window shopping" I wasn't looking for a specific breed or color, I just wanted to meet some new friends and maybe ask one to become part of our family.  I saw Lars and noticed that he had been in his Kennel for longer than many of the others dogs and I realized that as a Pit Bull he would be less likely to get adopted than other breeds with a less maligned reputation.  I walked him and drove home, thinking of him.  That night I researched more about the breed and as I went to sleep I envisioned him spending another lonely night in his kennel and decided that if he was still there tomorrow, I would take him home.

I adopted him the next day, but it almost didn't go through because I rent property and live in a smaller house.  Thankfully the woman processing our adoption could sense that I would not take this responsibility lightly and allowed him to join my family.  This moment has proven to be one of the best in my life, and every day since then my life has been enhanced by sharing my life with this wonderful creature.  I shamefully admit a failure in our first day together where I brought Lars to a dog park -- a bad idea for many dogs in general and especially a new dog who was uncomfortable with me.  Lars was attacked by an un-neutered and quite poorly trained dog, but we were able to break up the scuffle quick enough so that no damage was done, except to the poor American Pit Bull Terrier reputation.

Since then, I have joined various support groups online and found positive outlets for Lars to meet and play with other dogs in a controlled, safe, and happy environment.  I continue to act as an ambassador for the breed, taking Lars to obedience training classes and exercising him as much as he would like.  People on the street always comment on how he is such a good dog and when they ask what kind of dog he is, I relish the opportunity to educate them about the unfortunate myths that surround the breed and give them an opportunity to meet a terrific dog.  I know I have changed dozens of peoples views on the breed, and hope to do the same for hundreds more.

However, it would be unfair for me to take the credit for all this work.  Lars is a beautiful dog with a perfect temperament.  He is gentle with children and loves to sit on my lap while I work from home.  He is a joy to run with saves me money on my winter heating bills as he snuggles his furry body against mine to beat the cold.  I am a young man, 24 years old, and I have made many decisions in my life, good and bad, and without a doubt, the best one I have ever made was to take this dog home with me and become a responsible steward not just for Lars, but for the APBT breed at large.  Here's to a long and happy lifetime spent with my best friend, Lars.

Thank you HSHV!

Hello,

My name is Carol Ann, Cara for short. I am a 2 1/2 year old Beagle who was adopted from HSHV on March 6, 2010 after my previoues family could no longer care for me.

I go for lots of walks and love to cuddle with my family. I love to give kisses and my family loves to get them. Sometimes my people sisters fight over who gets to cuddle with me. There is plenty of me to cuddle and eventually they take turns. I will miss my older sister when she goes away to college. My people brother is cool too, although he does not always let me in his room. My people parents take me for a long walk daily. My mom  and I watch Tiger games while cuddling. When everyone is at school and Mom is at work (she is a teacher), I visit my dad in his home office. He will put me on his lap as he works. Everyone plays with me. My favorite toy is a stuffed Beagle, although it is not very stuffed anymore, but I have other stuffed toys including a monkey and moose.  During this summer, we spent time at the family cottage and I had a great time riding on a boat with the wind in my ears. I do not look forward to everyone going back to school, but at least Dad will be here.

Thank you HSHV for finding me the perfect family.

Barks and Kisses,

Carol Ann

I adopted a 3.5 month old kitten from the you about two weeks ago, and he has been just wonderful. His name was Kenny, but I changed it to Hugo (Huey for short). He has adjusted so well to apartment living. He is so incredibly playful, and it seems like he never tires out! He does get tired eventually, however, and is always willing to curl up in my lap or on my shoulders for a catnap.

Thanks for allowing me to bring this wonderful kitten home, and for all that the HSHV does.

Hello Everyone at HSHV!

You might remember me as Jake, now I'm known as Tucker.  In May a family came in, their son fell in love with me, and now I have a great home with a wonderful family.  I went to Puppy Class with my "boy", learned lots of new things and got my picture taken (like the cool hat?).  I love my boy.  He takes me swimming, for rides in his truck (inside of course), plays with me, takes me to play with his friends dogs and let's me sleep on his bed!

My new mom & dad  take me for walks, play with me and make sure I have a good selection of toys to play with.  They already had a Wheaton, Truman, so I have a brother to play with every day!  Truman and I get along great and have lots of fun together.  I hear I'm going to more training classes.  I'm getting to be quite a big boy so I need to learn to be a polite, well-behaved guy.  They have been patient with my puppy energy and ways and I'm doing my best to become a family member they can be proud of.

We adopted Bear (formerly named Depeche at HSHV)  two months ago from the Humane Society and she has been surprising us ever since. She has grown from only 7 lbs to 20 lbs in just 2 months, and is only 4 months old!  She is a very intelligent girl, and loves to do obstacle courses around the backyard and chase after the Frisbee.  Bear loves to cuddle with you and play all kinds of games. We are so happy to have her in our family!

Dear Happytails,

This is a picture of Muse know to the HVHS as Devo. We adopted Muse a couple of months ago and are amazed at how much she has grown since that time. We were only expecting her to be 40lbs but I think given her rate of growth she going to be a much bigger doggy.

We lover her to death...she is the perfect addition to our family. However, our cat may feel differently.

Sincerely,

Kristen Bledsoe-Fritz

I adopted two of the most adorable pups from you a year ago in December.  The girls names were petunia and tulip and we changed their names to Sparkle and Twinkle.

The girls are getting very grown up, and I wanted to share a really cute photo my friend took of them while we were at the Foote Dam in Oscoda, MI.

Thank you for having the facility to allow adoptions, they have been so good for me.  I feel really blessed every day.  Even when they haven't been on their best behavior.

We adopted Kloe (nee Chloe) 2 weeks after moving to Ann Arbor last July. There was some hesitation about letting her go to us, as she was already 7 and had spent her life with 1 older woman - HSHV workers were concerned about how she might be with children (one of them particularly boisterous!) - but we were allowed to take her, and it's been love all around ever since! Katerina (10) is Kloe's particular favorite - they spend hours together lounging with books. She's even started to allow Nikolai to pat and brush her, now that he's all of 7.

Kloe's self-appointed task is night-time "tucker-inner:" She will first lie down with Katerina, very solemnly staying there until her favorite human falls asleep. She then marches downstairs and invites Mom & Dad to go to bed with lots of meows and very pointed strolls toward the bedroom. When we finally get there, she jumps up and demands at least 10 minutes of uninterrupted attention, often lying on Dad's chest, in the way of his reading, until this is accomplished. Then she settles in somewhere for the night, often returning to Katerina's bed.

The picture is of Kloe with a birthday cake made by Katerina - of course, only the humans got to enjoy it: Kloe got an extra kitty treat!

The kids both gave their friends the option to donate to HSHV in lieu of gifts this year and hope it inspires others to do the same.

With love and gratitude,

The Baker Tang Gang

Hi!

Three and a half months ago we adopted Joe and Mike (formerly Kojo and Kona) from your shelter. They were only at the shelter for two days. As you can see, they are happy here. They spend all day grooming-turned-playfighting-turned-grooming-again, napping on their favorite chairs or in their favorite mixing bowl, and batting around stuff like bread and wheat grass.

They are very friendly, they even like to meet new people. As a result they have become very popular. We couldn't be happier with adopting a perfect pair and would strongly recommend everyone to consider adopting more than one cat. They are indoor kitties but they do love the screened-in porch. They also have a thing for insisting to be let into the bathroom if someone is taking a shower, then plopping comfortably down on the counters and howling until the shower is over. Joe is very snuggly (and lazy) while Mike is very playful, he was named after Michael Jordan after leaping on top of his scratching post while chasing a toy. We love them very much.

Hi there!
I just wanted to give a quick update of the dog we adopted from Huron valley a few months back. This is Sweetie Pie our lil'
pomeranian. He has really lived up to the high expectations of his name. He is a pile of cuteness and sweetness. Me and my husband (who is not a dog person) have absolutely fallen in love with this dog!

Being a previous pomeranian owner, I had ridiculous little things that I desired in a pup that I knew were probably not going to be met (like being cuddled and coddled constantly) but he is the cuddliest little dog. If you sit on the floor he immediately races from wherever he was to come jump up in your lap. He loves being held, touched, and squeezed. He is very handy as a protector, always alarming us when someone comes near the house, strangely although Sweetie Pie is very small I feel more safe having him around when I'm alone at home.

Thanks to all the workers and volunteers at Huron Valley for all your help!

We adopted Mary in April 2010. She had lots of bladder problems that we weren't sure about when we were first looking. But after playing with her and sitting with her, we knew she was the dog for us! Her bladder problems are now controlled with a prescription diet and she has made herself at home pretty quickly. She loves to walk and run, play with her toys, sleep and be in or around water any chance she gets.

She is the sweetest girl you can imagine and we love her so much and are very glad she is a part of our lives! Thanks to everyone at HSHV for helping Mary find her forever home with us!

Dear HSHV,

Over a month ago, we adopted a sweet, affectionate Pit Bull named Dio.  We decided to keep his name, after the late metal hero Ronnie James Dio - but added a second namesake: Diogenes, the ancient Greek Philosopher known for his dog-like behavior.

When we first walked in the the dog kennel, we both knew Dio was our dog.  While all the other dogs were barking and carrying on, Dio was just laying there being cute.  We had originally wanted a small female terrier, and we never would have imagined adopted a pit bull - but after adopting Dio, we are 100% converted to being pit bull lovers.

We were worried at first that a bigger dog would not be as affectionate as a small dog, but we have adopted ourselves a 40 pound lap dog!  We have enjoyed showing our friends and family just how sweet, loving, and friendly a "mean and vicious pit bull" can be, and Dio just loves everybody!  He is now successfully potty trained, crate trained, and only barks when someone either knocks on the door or walks into the house late at night (not a bad way to scare off intruders).  He is getting better at not jumping up on new friends, and is learning that not every stranger on a walk wants to meet him, no matter how sweet and friendly he is.

Although he knows where home is, he welcomes anyone that walks into the door.  He has had experiences with all kinds of people, children, babies, dogs, and cats, and has never once shown even a hint of aggression - just the curiosity and excitement that comes with being exposed to new things.  Thank you friends at HSHV for encouraging us to adopt Dio and helping us to dispel pit bull prejudice.  Dio is perfect for us and we are so happy is a part of our family.

- Ben & Angie

P.S. The picture is of Dio with a friend of the family.  He hopped right on her lap the first time he met her.

Hey, everyone!

Just wanted to write and let everyone know that Asia and Porter are doing wonderfully. We got Asia two days ago and within an hour of being here, she was roaming the house, making it her own. She has slept in my arms since we got her home and loves to cuddle up on the couch. She's just a doll. It took her a day to get used to our dog, but they're buddies now. She's just been such a sweetie since the minute we got her here.

Today, we got Porter and within 30 seconds of me setting him down in his "confined space", he was out the door and wandering the house. He said hello to Asia and they were immediately bumping heads. He had absolutely no fear of the house or our big dog, either. He cried a little at first, but once we realized he was hungry and wanted CANNED food, he was a happy camper with a full belly. He perched himself on the couch and then my husband's lap. He's a little lover, just like Asia.

They're both talkers and we can't get enough. We all walk through the house chirping at each other. We've decided to keep their original names, but nicknamed Asia "Itty Bitty" and Porter "Knuckle Head" - anyone who knows Porter knows that fits him well. He's such a goofball. They're both great additions to our family, great with our dog and daughter, and have just made a home for themselves.

I'm so happy that they're happy! All the pictures were taken within hours of them being home with us - and as you can see, it didn't take them long to decide they like it here!

Thanks to everyone for all your help!! I know we have our perfect match.

We adopted Rocky approximately 1 year ago as a companion dog for "Lucy" who was previously adopted from the Livingston Co. shelter.  The folks at your shelter were very good about helping us introduce Rocky to Lucy. Rocky at that time was pet of the month and had been in the shelter for approximately 30 days.   Lucy wasnt so sure at first when we brought her to meet him,  but Rocky walked right up to her and gave her a kiss on the side of the mouth!  They've been close friends ever since this past year.  We enjoy having Rocky in our home and both dogs are so fun to watch as they play chase around the house and outside, they are inseparable.  Since Rocky is a Jack Russell he has the right kind of energy to keep up with Lucy the Boxer mix.  Her size and stubbornness helps keep the  Jack Russell in Rocky in check, they are a perfect match.

Since we already had two cats (Marllin & Chance, brothers) also previously adopted from your shelter we had to slowly introduce the species so as not to offend the feline community.  Rocky is so sweet to the boys, he walks by them as if he is one of them.  Lucy, well, we are still working on her social skills, but the large orange tabby, Chance, has already taught Lucy not to chase him.  I

Thank you for your rescue and support to rescue families in around the Huron Valley area!

Dear HSHV,

We adopted Athos in the beginning of February, and we love him!!  Athos is an awesome cat.  When we visited him in the shelter he was very aloof, but as soon as we brought him home he literally turned into a different cat!  He is very affectionate and gives lots of head butts, and has such loud purrs!  He loves getting his tummy rubbed, and usually sleeps on his back with all four paws in the air.  Whenever we call for him he comes running from wherever he is in the house just to say hi.

He LOVES playing, especially with the laser pointer...  We adopted our other cat Gonzo back in October, and the two cats are good company for each other when we are out of the house.  They have long snoozing sessions when they're not chasing each other around the house, and they lick each other's faces every day.  We could not be happier with our two shelter kitties, and we're so glad to give them a loving home to call their own.

Here's our Happy Tails story: We lost our beautiful 6 year-old Maine Coon cat, Woody, in April to cancer. I knew eventually we would bring that beautiful breed's energy back into our home. One June evening, a "stray" Maine Coon was brought to the shelter. I met him the very next afternoon. As I talked to him, he made butter, only his paws showing through the safety of the box, and occasionallty a tufted ear looked my direction.  I returned on his "release" day, June 11th. Since he had just been moved into the kitty community room, I almost missed finding him.  Luckily, on my final round of visits before leaving - I saw him, Captain Handsome, he was named.  Yes he was!

We had already poised ourselves for adoption, so that afternoon, after the final counseling and paperwork, we brought him home.  Within 24 hours, he had integrated into the family, claiming his perch on the cat tree and cozying up to our fabulous furry freak brothers (Eddie and Lobo).  He is so sweet and personable. We renamed him Sonny and he's a music lover too!  At age 6, we can only guess where he's come from, but we are so lucky to have found him!

"Princess Marie" now "Zoey" has been with my family now for 2 years on July 1st. She has definately settled down into our family and is loving it at her new home. We rescued her from the Humane Society of Huron Valley and we were told she was a stray. But then when I brought her home she could sit and lay down. She is a very fast learner and has grown custom to her morning dog treats and daily walks.

I take her to Stoney Creek Metro Park and while I roller blade the six miles, Zoey is by my side running. She loves to swim and go for car rides with me.

I take Zoey everywhere and I don't know what I would do without her. I am very thankful for Huron Valley for rescuing her.

Hi All,

My name is Bogart, alias Johnny and I was brought to the Huron Valley Humane Society of Huron Valley on May 24, 2010. I lived in a foster home for awhile and then came back at HSHV.  I was adopted by Paula and Lyn Miska on June 18, 2010.  I was a surprise Father's Day present for Kurt, my dad (Paula's husband).  I am a very happy kitty and love my new home. I bounce around and love to be played with.  I am very happy with my new, forever home.

Thanks to everyone at HVHS for the loving care you gave to me and for letting me be adopted.  I know you thought that I was shy, but I am showing my true personality, bubbly and outgoing and I am very happy.

     With best regards,
     Bogart

Hello!

I meant to send something a while back, but better late than never!  I adopted Ginger, now Mouse, from the shelter in February 2010.  When I first got her she was a bit of a scaredy-cat (hence, a cat named Mouse), but after hiding under a reclining chair for a few days, she ventured out and has been a wonderful feline friend ever since.  Mouse enjoys chasing catnip mice and/or shadows around the house at high speeds, chattering at the birds outside the window, and being the object of your affection at all times.  She is a goofy and lovable cat and I am very glad I we found each other!

Thanks!

A picture if worth a thousand words - that's what we thought when we got this update from the McGowan family. They adopted this kitten named Biscuit, and it looks like Biscuit found a VERY, VERY comfortable home.

Thank you for adopting!

My name is Lizzi, I was left at a strange place with lots of other friends.. many of us barked through the night because we were all scared.  I saw lots of other friends come and go and wondered where my family was.  Days went by and nobody came to get me.  I had a nice cage and lots of friends but I was lonely.

One day while taking a nap I saw a young man and a lady looking and talking to me though the bars in my cage.  I immediately liked the young man and I could tell he liked me.   We went for a walk and then I found myself in a car going to another strange place.

First they changed my name again to Lizzi, and since I am such a beautiful dog (as I have been told many times) I like it and it fits.

I have to admit, it was a rocky start at best.  First I didn't know these people then they put me in a cage when they left and I hated it.  I did everything including bending the bars to get out.  So my new owner decided to try not putting me in the cage anymore and boy was I happy.  I now tell my Mom when I need to go out and I never have to go in the cage.

I spend most my days with my Mom at the park running and playing with my new owners. We have great times, I have my own spot on the couch and am sure that it's mine anytime I want it. My new family buys me treats and loves me very much I can tell, they can't imagine life before me.  I am not just a pet I am part of the family as I can tell my Mom is always telling my friends owners what a wonderful part of the family I am.  Sometimes she gets a little carried away but my friends at the park don't seem to mind, they are all loved too.

Despite my rocky start here at our new home, things are wonderful, I have attached a photo of me on my spot on the couch, this is the life, parks, love, play and a family that loves me!

Hi!

This is Sasha and he was adopted from the HSHV in September 1999. He is one of the sweetest, gentlest creatures on the face of this earth! Although he is a bit of a chicken (he's afraid of soap bubbles) he loves basking in the sun, climbing ladders when they're in the house and squishing himself into any box he can find, especially shoe boxes. He has been a dear part of our family for the last 11 years and makes each day special with his sweet, little squeaks and purring. Things would simply not be the same without him.

Thank you so much!

Evelyn

Reggie's "Gotcha" day was May 2, 2010 from HSHV.  He's part of the family and buddy to my son Evan.  Reggie sometimes doubles as a fluffy pillow as you'll see in the picture. He is truly a gentle giant (at 80 lbs.).

We feel so lucky to have Reggie in our family!

Here is Thumper smelling the flowers at his new home.  We brought him home on St. Patrick's Day 2010.  It was a lucky day for all of us!!!  We had tried to adopt him several days earlier (during an open house) but we were told that he was already in the process of being adopted.  Fortunately, I went back and, to my surprise, Thumper was still there.

Every week someone slows down their car to ask "What kind of dog is that?".  And, almost daily, someone tells us what a cool looking dog he is.  We have to agree but there's so much more to him than his good looks.  Thumper is wonderful with people, kids, other dogs and cats. I often take him to the "canine corale" or some other local dog park to play and he loves it!!!

We love him so much and we are so grateful to the folks at the Humane Society!!!

Thank you,

This is Laci...AKA Olive Oil. She became part of our family after my cat of 23 years passed away on April 12, 2010.

She has been a joy to all of us, including our German Shepard. Our Shepard even lets her nibble out of her food dish. She keeps us very busy and we love her very much.

Thank you for allowing her to come into our family,

Hello,

Scarlett came from Mississippi on the Rescue Waggin, April 15, 2010. I met her on April 18, 2010.  We bonded right away..so Scarlett thought she would adopt me. I filled out the papers for her, did the interview..and Scarlett took me home.  We were home for a few hours, when, she told me her "real" name, Mollie. It was funny how that came to be...my cousin was calling her dog "Maggie", Scarlett's ears went up..so we tried several names..My cousin said, "Mollie"...Scarlett went running to her.

Mollie looked like a mini "flying nun" with her ears hairy..she looked like she was ready to take off into the sky.  After she had her first visit at the groomers, she looked like the mini Schnauzer she is..so cute.

Mollie adjusted well to her new home. Housebroken too.  She was 8lbs 8ozs. when she came here but gained one pound since.  She a happy, sweet, little fur baby.  Loves to sit in my lap..would do so all day.  She doesn't seem to know that a toy would bring her lots of fun. She likes her playmates, Maggie and Beau. Growls at large dogs. Loves people, little kids and her dinner.

I'm so happy Mollie adopted me!
Katie

We apologize that this Happy Tail is so late in getting up. Thank you to Jacqueline for sending us this update on Casey!

6-11-10

In May 2009 I adopted Casey (formerly Jasmine).   I was not interested in a pit bull mix but Casey caught my eye.  As I knelt down so she could smell me, Casey reached through  the bars of her kennel and ever so gently touched my cheek with her paw.  Well stick a fork in me cause I was done!!

Casey has been a great companion, loves all children (especially my grandson) and has several good "dog" friends.  I it's a crime that pitties get such a bad rap as aggressive dogs.  It's not the breed that's aggressive but the human behind the dog.

Thank you HSHV for all you do and introducing me to the sweetest girl I know!!  I can't imagine my life without Casey!

Our family adopted Natalie, now known as Tupelo since she came from Mississippi, on June 7th. We had not had a puppy in the house in over 13 years and were not looking forward to it. But with two 10-year-old animal lovers, it was inevitable it would happen. Tupelo has been an EXCELLENT puppy. When we can't keep an eye on her, we put her in her crate and she sits and watches us. She doesn't whine or bark in her crate. When we let her out, she runs for the door to go out and go to the bathroom. Luckily having kids in the house helps wear her out so she sleeps really well.

She is well cared for and socialized thanks to my kids and their friends! Thank you for Tupelo, she has added much laughter to our house.

Hi

I'm Simon a.k.a Mr. Awesome!  I was adopted on 4/2/10.  I'm really enjoying my time with my new family.  They like it quiet just like me.  I've taken up some new hobbies while here.  Sitting in the windows meowing at the ladies (purrrr), Hanging out in my own bedroom, enjoy dips in my new jacuzzi (as you can see in the picture), long walks on the beach and knitting.  I've taken up a new organic food lifestyle and the food is DELICIOUS!  My family seems to love me alot.....and just between you and I - I've got them wrapped around my paw.  I think I get a new toy or treat every day.  Ahhh - this is the life.  Hope my other buddies at the shelter get to enjoy a new home like I am.

Thanks Huron Valley for being there for me when I needed you.

Hello to everyone at Huron Valley,

My name is Isabella and I was adopted from HVHS in April 2010 by my special pet parents Chuck & Debbie.

I have been doing wonderful and have become an important part of my pet parents lives.  I have a wonderful home and have done a lot of new things.  I have taken a trip to Ohio so my pet parents could visit some friends and I spend a lot of time in my pet parents camper on weekends and holidays in Harrison MI.  My pet parents are so excited to have me. We would like to thank each and everyone of you for taking care of me and bringing us all together.

I am very spoiled, get lots of attention, good care and lots of love. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing great.

Lots of Love,

Kamping Kitty Isabella

Dear Friends at the Huron Valley Humane Society,

I am so glad you took me in from Louisiana and brought me to your shelter so Jill and Jonathan could adopt me.  That was about a month ago.  Since then I have been going to two different puppy training classes so I can learn how to be a good pal.  So far I've learned sit, down, come, and how to walk on a loose leash--not bad, eh?  I get lots of treats when I do the right thing.  Jill and Jonathan both want me to grow up and be a therapy dog.  I will probably get to go to many more classes so that Therapaws passes me :)  Thanks for taking such good care of me.  I am very happy in my new home!  Enjoy the picture of me playing with my new Buster Cube...I roll it to get my dinner!  What fun!

Happy tails,
Jack

Greetings,

I am happy to report that Hughes is doing well in his new home. I adopted Hughes in January and his paper said he had been shot by a beebee gun several times.  He seems to have recovered and loves to play.

Thanks for brining us together!

Hello,

I adopted Mila on April 10th and she has been a very happy cat. She is so affectionate and loves to cuddle, purr, and have her chin and ears scratched. Mila is also quite a talker! She likes to wake up early in the morning looking for someone to play with. If I talk to her, she'll usually respond with lots of meows. Mila's favorite places to sleep are my bed, my lap, and my computer keyboard! I think she likes to feel the warmth of the computer. I am so happy I found Mila, a previous Undiscovered Treasure. She has been great company and is so well-behaved.

Thank you HSHV for taking great care of her and preparing her for her forever home with me!

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I adopted my darling Snickers. Time does fly when you’re having fun!

Snickers is just what I hoped for: a playful, affectionate lap cat. She’s a real little character with a lovely loud purr, and she loves to knead and give kitty kisses. If she’s not on me, she likes to be near me a lot of the time, which I enjoy (except perhaps when she walks on my keyboard while I’m using it…). She makes me smile every day, and I love her to pieces. She’s become such an integral part of my life that I can’t imagine life without her. As she’s only three years old now, I look forward to many more happy years with her.

Thank you, HSHV, for bringing Snickers and me together!

Sincerely,

Teri Booth

Sorry it took us so long to update you on Nala.  She is doing very well!  Still lovable, playful and full of energy!  She and her big brother, Miles, are getting along just fine.  I've enrolled Nala in agility training this summer.  I think she'll really excel!  I'm attaching a couple of pictures that I took last month.  Enjoy!

Thanks for bringing Nala into our lives,

Dear HSHV,

3 years ago on June 28, my roommate and I came into the old shelter looking for a friend for our other cat. In the way back we found Tammy, a 1 year old Calico in the back of her cage. When we saw her it was love at first sight, we just had to take her home. She has been a true blessing in our lives and we love her very much. She loves to go for walks outside on her cat leash and sleep on our feet. Thank you so much for taking such good care of her. Here she is waiting for a belly
rub :)

Dear HSHV,

Sorry it has taken so long for us to send an update!  We adopted Chase (aka, Blitzen) back in January.  He did have a rough few weeks about a month after we adopted him and had to stay the night at the vets due to a respiratory infection. It was very scary and we were so glad he was OK.  And thank goodness for the pet insurance provided by HSHV!

Chase has been a great hit in our family ever since! We don't have any children but our niece and nephew adore him along with everyone else that meets him.  Chase is very smart, good natured and well behaved!

And very good with other dogs too. He quickly adjusted to us as we did to him.  His personality has really come out! He is so happy and silly at times.  As you know he LOVES to run!  But he has also became quite the lap dog too.  We purchased a training collar for him in fear that he would run off and he responded very quickly to this and even though he has ran off a few times, he does come right back!  (: He has seemed to claim our 2 acres of yard as his own and is very happy being outside with us running around watching the birds and going with his "daddy" to run at the farm across the street. But come night time, he is a big cuddle bug and doesn't like to get far from our side!

Chase has really filled our hearts with happiness after having to put down our 15 year old Springer 9 mths prior to adopting him and we are so happy adopting from HSHV! It was our first time there for a visit and we just couldn't say no to those eyes!

Dear HSHV,

Alioop who is now Miss Pepper is an important part of our family. She has adjusted well to life with two small children in the house and loves them very much. The picture is of her watching cartoons with my daughter. She also likes to comfort the baby when he is crying by licking his face so cute!!!  We love Miss Pepper and she is a great addition to our family.

Thank you,

Thank you to all who made Ginger feel at home and gave her a safe haven until we could get to her. We drove 3 hours for her and she is well worth every minute it took! I am amazed to think of how her life could have turned out and thankful that her ‘birth’ family did the right thing in turning her and her siblings over to your wonderful facility.

Zoey is a playful yet loving pup. She is very smart and has already learned to sit, lay down, and come. She loves to cuddle under blankets, sleep on laps, and her puppy grunts are the best sound in our house. She is sure that she is not a dog but a human baby. We often hear ‘she has legs put her down’! She does not really care for her kennel but is adjusting well. The first few nights she had to sleep in the kennel and not someone’s bed she cried and cried. I couldn’t stand it the first night so I went and got her. I ‘thought’ she was traumatized, she really played it up..sucking on my ear and everything!!! Zoey is a wonderful addition to our family! We are very thankful to have her.

Update on Barley (a cat that was rescued by our cruelty investigators and was very thin and sickly when he came to the shelter)

I had been looking for an animal for a while to call my own.  Some one I could connect with and love.  I saw many amazing animals, cats, dogs, bunnies ect.  But none seemed to strike a cord for me.  Then I saw Barley on line, and I just had to go see him in person.  After finding out about his story and the love that all the work  put into him - it really brought tears to my eyes.  One look at Barley and you knew he was a fighter and I could relate to that.  Having been through a lot in my life made me connect to this purple wearing cat.  That we both had a strong personalty and the willingness to survive.  I see him getting stronger every day that passes.  From only being able to walk around little bits at a time to jumping up on the bed surprising  my boyfriend and I.  I am  very proud to be his owner and friend, and I have to thank the Humane Society of Huron Valley for providing such amazing care that Barley could survive and eventually find a loving place in my home.

Thank you,

Paige

Hello!

I just wanted to give you an update on Spring/Momkin. I adopted her earlier in May and I changed her name to Momkin shortly after she came home and she is happy! Momkin loves to sleep -especially next to me as much as she can and never stops purring! She is a very healthy cat and loves also to sleep by the window and watch the birds outside. She can be quite playful at times and loves to jump around with her toy. Sometimes she gets too excited and wants to run so fast she starts off with a big hop. She is just the purrfect companion for me and loves to have me around. She greets me whenever I leave and when I come home she meows as if to say she is so happy. I couldn't have adopted a better little girl and we are a perfect match together! She has definately found her furever home and knows that!

Hi Folks,

Here is a picture of Elmo -- that was the name on his cage at HSHV, and we knew he wouldn't lie to us.  He's a sweet, calm dog, but very playful, too.

Elmo has made lots of dog and people friends at the Saturday Morning Flash Dog at Slauson Middle School, which we are lucky enough to live right next to.  His ears win all of the people over, of course, and his willingness to wrestle for hours on end has made him a favorite with a lot of dogs. We couldn't be happier with him!

The adoption process at HSHV was fun, and we were impressed by both the professionalism and the caring nature of all of the staff we dealt with.  We are so glad that HSHV exists!

We were surprised to learn that Elmo hailed from Chattanooga, Tenn, where he was picked up as a stray.  We also learned that HSHV has such a well-run and successful program that adoption candidates regularly travel great distances, just as Elmo did, to finally find happy homes through HSHV.

Keep up the good work!

Hi this is MAXX (aka JD), I just wanted to let everyone know at HSHV that I am doing super great here at my new home.  My new parents adopted me on April 24th, and my new life has been pretty good.  When I first arrived at my new house I was really calm and quiet, boy has that changed.  Now I am just a little busy body, I think my new parents were just a little bit shocked by that but they have adapted nicely.  They think it is really funny when I am outside running a million miles a minute in a circle, my mom calls me the crazy dog, it makes me happy to see her laugh like that.  I can jump really high too, my parents think I am part Jack Russell, because I can jump crazy high, like I think it’s about 4 feet in the air.  My mom and dad sometimes call me cat-dog because I can jump so high, and I land real gentle.  One day I shocked my mom because I jumped from the middle of the living room floor and landed right in the middle of the kitchen table.  My mom just stood there she couldn’t believe her eyes, she wasn’t very happy with me but she couldn’t stop laughing all at the same time, that’s when she started calling me cat-dog.  My new human brother is a great guy too, he plays with me  every day after school and we watch TV together. They feed me real good, I have lots of toys, I get to sleep on the furniture, and I even get to sleep in bed between my new mom and dad.  Boy I trained them pretty good, and it only took a few days, boy the power of being such a cutie pie, its works every time.  Well I just wanted to say “HI” too all of you and thanks for taking care of me while I was there and giving me a chance to find a new home.

Thank You,

Maxx (aka JD)

Thank you,

Hello we are writing to provide an update on Bernard our weimaraner that we adopted on May 10th. We have now named him Jaxen and are so happy to have him as an addition to our home. He is doing great on housebreaking, in fact he is going on day 3 of no accidents in the house. He stopped "chewing" when he was provided with new chew toys. He is still getting adjusted to walking on a leash, but each time is beginning to grow more fond of it. He loves to go for car rides with the family, and was able to go to his first little league game on Saturday where he was showered with love and attention from all at the game. We are so thankful for Jaxen and are looking forward to many many years of happiness with him.

Here’s an update on Murphy, adopted from the HSHV on April 3rd. He’s pictured here with his “big brother” Cooper, a five year old Brittany.

Murphy has blended into our family remarkably well, and he and Cooper have been especially good for each other. Both are fairly high-energy dogs and they love to play-wrestle, indoors and out, and take turns chasing each other around the back yard--for hours it seems. They enjoy their trips to the dog park and long neighborhood walks too. By the end of the day, both dogs tired, they curl up together or with their people. Happy boys!

Murphy is an extremely friendly, really sweet little dog. He’s put on a couple of much needed pounds since he came to us, and so has Cooper--in solidarity.  He’s learned “the rules” quickly, and really only breaks the one about no dogs on the couch. It’s so irresistible! Overall, he’s been a wonderful addition to our family.

Thank you HSHV staff and volunteers for all you do. Everyone we met during the adoption process was helpful and caring. We really appreciate the work you do!

Dear HSHV,

I am writing to give you an update on George the Cat. My husband and I adopted George on 3/28/2010, and since then, George has certainly made himself at home with us.

We could not be happier!  He has tons of energy and and is a true character. Every morning and evening, he does his "routine" of chasing his toys all around the house, including up and down the stairs. If his favorite pink mouse is missing, he will meow until we search under the refrigerator or the closet doors and locate it for him. He keeps us very well entertained. He also runs to the door when we come home and greets us with lots of chatter and then will thoroughly bathe us with loads kisses.

George has brought so much joy to our lives -- beyond what we could have ever imagined. Thanks to everyone at HSHV for taking such good care of George and for bringing him into our lives!

Here is a picture of Dozer whom we adopted at the end of March.  Since having him he has gained 10 pounds.  He's a giant ball of love and loves to play. He also loves going for rides in the van.  He gets along very well with "his boys" who are 12, 11, 8 and 6 years old.

His most favorite thing to do though is to chase shadows!  He can spend nearly a half hour watching the reflection of his dog tags on the floor when the sun is shining through the window! He does have a cherry eye and has surgery scheduled for this Wednesday at the HSHV Clinic.

Thank you,

Jennifer Owen

Atlas (formerly Kirby) wanted to drop a note and say hello.  He has been with us since the end of February and has been as well behaved as we could have hoped!  He amazingly has never had an accident in the house and has settled in very nicely.  He loves the couch and has been an angel on walks!

We will be moving next month to New Mexico so hopefully he will like it out west!  Thanks to everyone at HSHV for taking care of him when he needed it - our family wouldn't be complete without him!

Dear HSHV Staff and Volunteers,

My family adopted Blue last summer. We came in to HSHV looking for a kitten that would be a pet for our rambunctious boys and a playmate for our other kitten since our older cats weren’t interested in the job. Blue was a cute 13week old kitten that loved standing on shoulders with a purr that would make a Harley Davidson jealous. Given how much he’s grown in the past year, we think maybe he’s part Michigan panther, lol.  We know he was a feral rescue but his foster home handled him with such love that you would never know it.  Blue has a way of just melting on you when he lies down, and has no conditions on how he’ll allow you to pet him (such a rare thing in a cat!). He gets along well with his 3 older brothers, staying out of the scraps they get into with each other, and he handles the attention of our 3 young boys with a resigned dignity.  Blue has happily accepted his new home and is a perfect fit with our family!

Thank you,

Hello all,

Just wanted to update everyone on Gucci which is now named Stihl~~ (like the saw) but is pronounced steel.  He is doing fantastic.  He has made himself right at home!  He is such a little lover.  Stihl is very healthy and doing very well.  We are working on potty training he is actually doing really well.  We are also working on not chewing on the couch and our shoes.  We bought like 10 new chew toys for him so every time he is chewing on something he is not supposed to, we quickly put a chew toy in his mouth.  Our family is so glad that Stihl was able to come and live with us.  Thank you HSHV!

Thanks,

Dear HSHV Staff & Volunteers,

In February we adopted a 3 month old kitten named Lord after we lost our other kitten to an illness. I didn't think I would ever find a more loving and friendly cat but when Lord reached his little paw through the cage door, I was hooked! We have since renamed him Sidney and are happy to report he is a joy to have in our home and he is doing great. Sid is playful and extremely intelligent and curious. He sleeps with us at night and wakes us up every morning at the same time to play and eat. He loves laying in the sunny spots in the living room and when he's not relaxing he is playing with our dog Simon, who we adopted from the shelter last June. They get along great! Thank you for taking care of our Sidney, we've been blessed with 2 wonderful new family members because of you!

Westley and Sadie (formerly Princess Buttercup) have found their new home. They have the run of the house and sleep where ever they please. Westley likes to be the KING of the house and strut his stuff. Saddie is quite the lady.

Since I've had them, they have been a joy and have filled my days with laughter with their antics! They give me unconditional love and affection. I thank god each day for sending both my way.

Thanks,

Hello,

It has been about 6 weeks since I adopted Layla (now Leela) , and she has been nothing but a blessing.  She adored her crate from day one, making it easy to ensure her safety and having her housebroken in only a couple days.  She loves being outdoors and with a fenced in backyard she is having the time of her life.  She adores other dogs and has a bestfriend Naomi (5 year old German Sheppard) who shows her the ropes of life with her routine playdates.  She is so sweet and has great manners!  She loves hiding her bones in the backyard and attempting to chase birds.  I have been exposing her to many different people, noises and environments, and her confidence continues to grow.  Now that she is fully vaccinated, I plan to take her to dog parks and training classes!

Thank you,

Dear HSHV:

Filling you in on our latest addition. We adopted "Chico" now Boris on March 13th. He has finally fit in with Dune and Roc, his sister and brother. Boris is a very sweet dog, but very full of himself. We have him enrolled in obedience school and he not only loves classes, but his instructor. he loves making tasks to do and believe he could walk 10 miles a day if we could do it! He is a love, and we are very lucky to have him. He has found hid forever home. We can't wait to take him camping & kayaking this summer.

Thank you,

Dear HSHV,

I adopted Bertie (now known as Gracie) on December 28th, and she has been an absolute joy to have around! She purred like crazy when I would come see her in her "starter" room, but was timid around others and took some time to adjust to larger surroundings.

She has now become quite fond of sitting by the sliding glass doors and watching birds, leaves...whatever she can find! One of her favorite spots, however, is sitting right on my lap while I read, work, or watch TV.  She has also learned to roll over on her back and stick her paws in the air when she wants belly rubs. Although she was quite the night prowler to start, she has also become accustomed to joining me while I sleep and wakes me up in the morning promptly at 6:30 for attention and breakfast :) She is such a cutie and a wonderful little addition to my life!

Thank you for introducing me to Gracie and for all the work that you're doing!

Sincerely,

Kim and Gracie

I adopted Dexter (f/k/a Indy) as a "Diamond in the Rough" in August 2009.

The staff at HSHV may particularly remember him as the little kitten who was caught in a car engine and needed his front leg and tail amputated.  As you can see from his picture, he's now a crown jewel!

He's doing very well -- happy, healthy, and has no clue whatsoever that he's missing a leg and a tail.  He's EXTREMELY active, inquisitive, sweet, loving, and 100% adorable.

Thank you to everyone at HSHV for everything you did to save his life and make it possible for him to joing my furry family.

Best regards,

Stephanie Schmitzer

Hi there!

Just an update on Blu (a.k.a. Louis) - We adopted Blu on 3/20/10. He is an English Lab and was a stray.  We have truly fallen in love with him.  He makes us smile each time we have him by our side whether it is greeting you as you come in the door, sleeping by the bed at night, waiting for someone to get out of the shower or following us from room to room!  Blu is a big goofy dog, which is typical of his breed. He loves to get his face washed in the morning with a warm washrag! He has found the fish pond in the backyard and sticks his whole head in and blows bubbles trying to catch the fish.

Blu is a diamond in the rough . He has arthritis in his front leg and has a hard time playing too much and going on too long of a walk, but we are working on his weight and hopefully he will get some relief. He takes osteo bi-flex and vitamin e daily and seems to be showing some results from that as well. It was clear going into this adoption that he would never be totally healed  and probably always walk with a limp

We think he is great and he has fit right in at our home and we are so happy he is here!

Susan and Tim Varner

p.s. Blu is our second adoption of a lab from Huron Valley in the past 3 years.  We adopted Indigo in September 2007 and our daughter has taken her to live with her in her new home.  Blu and Indigo have become good friends.

We adopted gracie on April 4th. As you suggested we brought her home and let her go in a quiet room. After a few days of poking her head out of the door she finally came out and started to explorer her new home. As you can see she is now right at home and fitting in very well. She is a great addition to the family. We are so glad we came in.

Thank you,

It's been about 6 weeks since we brought Toby home and he has become an important part of our family.  He's good with other people
and with other dogs which makes it easy to bring him along when we go out.  Very energetic,  he seems more like a puppy than a 3 1/2 year old dog.  He runs and jumps like a gazelle in the back yard and gets multiple long walks with Joe every day.

Most days, he has four people in the house to dote on him --and he takes full advantage.  He's unfailingly affectionate and responsive, and so quickly and easily trained!  I  just can't imagine how anyone could have ever given him up.   But no matter, he's here to stay.

Best,

Dear HSHV Staff & Volunteers,

We wanted to update you on Moby (a.k.a. "Holmes") the 11-month old Pit Bull whom we adopted early last February.  We changed his name to Moby because he reminded us of a tiny white whale (or some other sort of albino sea mammal) with his little round body and big, smiley head.  He is thriving in his new home and makes us laugh with his goofy, happy-go-lucky personality.  He absolutely adores his "big sister," Maybelle, and the feeling is definitely mutual.  They love playing together, sleeping together, going on walks together - you name it, they like doing it together.  Although he is still skittish around loud traffic noises, he has come WAY out of his shell since we first took him home.  In general, he seems confident and well adjusted.  He's getting lots of exercise every day and is making good progress with all the basic commands, like "sit", "stay", "gentle", etc.

He's been very good with our cat, Desmond, and, although Moby hasn't quite learned to simply ignore him, it's clear that the cat is in charge.  He was totally house trained within a few weeks and took to crate training right away.  He's great on a leash - I can practically walk him with one finger (at least when he's not with Maybelle)  - and really enjoys going for walks.  Maybelle is much happier now that she has a permanent playmate.  It really is hard to imagine how we got along without him for so long!  Thank you for bringing us all together!

Sincerely,

Rachel, Paul, Maybelle & Moby

Hi everyone,

I am sorry that I didn’t see many of my friends at HSHV last week, when I visited the clinic for a checkup.  I was told that some of you barely recognized me and had to ask if I was Burton the beagle. As you may remember, I arrived as a stray last summer and lived in the kennel for almost two dog years. One day a dog bit my butt, and the clinic workers stitched it up and told me I needed to go into foster.  I am not sure what “foster” means, but I am pretty sure it is “eat chicken,” or maybe “eat chicken with meds.”  A she person (known to you humans as CS) took me to her home, where they had a nice spread in the basement.  I liked foster, but I hurt a lot and stopped eating, and so I returned to the clinic for more surgery. I felt better after that, and went back into foster. CS told me the veterinary staff did a splendid job, but I had to keep wearing a cone on my head and stay rested. So I stayed in the basement, where a he person (MS) would join me at night and read books, and CS would sit with me in the morning and read newspapers. She told me I was becoming erudite. I don’t know what “erudite” means, but I am pretty sure it means “eat peanut butter,” or maybe “eat peanut butter with meds.”

After about a half dog year in the basement, I started feeling stronger, so one day I knocked down the barricades at the foot of the staircase and went up the stairs. The cone on my head and the sore butt made it hard but I managed to push the door open. CS tells it this way:  “I drove into the garage and thought, ‘That barking is WAY too loud.’ When I opened the door, there was Burton, hitting me full-force in the shins with his cone. Behind him was Bartok, barking hysterically: ‘Who is this DOG? Who IS this dog? WHO is this DOG?’ and Burton would turn around and ram Bartok with the cone, and Bartok would yelp and jump over Burton and bang into me, and Burton would turn again and whap both of us with the cone.” You see, Bartok was the dog who lived upstairs, and I wanted to live upstairs, too, and if you know beagles, you know they will get their way eventually. So after that I lived upstairs. Bartok didn’t like my cone but he learned to leap when I came near.

They took the cone off and removed my stitches about a dog year after the dog bit my butt, and then I went up for adoption again but stayed in foster. Bartok and I became friends and walked and played together.  It turns out that he came from the shelter, too. Around Christmas CS and MS told me that Bartok loved me, and so did they, and that this was my forever home now.  Having a buddy dog is great! We wrestle and share toys, and I can now walk several miles with my people and Bartok. The reason some of you didn’t recognize me is that when I showed up as a stray at the shelter I was obese, but I dropped six pounds since my last checkup – that was about two dog years ago – on top of four pounds during my recuperation.  The vet says I will always have a lump on my rump and a pudgy tail, but that I am close to my proper weight. CS and MS say I am a really great dog, and that all the dogs at the shelter are great, even the ones who may not look so great on the outside.

Hi!

I wanted to share a picture of Max in his new home with his new friend Izzy!  They're doing very well together.   Max is a bit of a stubborn boy...we've been going to obedience classes at PetSmart, but he likes to do his own thing.   He LOVES the dog park out at Lyon Oaks County Park and I'm going to get him out to the Dog Park in Lapeer (I think) this summer as it has a lake with a dock specifically for dogs!

Anyway, please enjoy the photo. He's a good boy!

Max is the BIG RED DOG on the left!

Ohno (tiger) is a speedy racetrack demon—running around and around our house at full tilt before plopping down for a big, long rest. He looks into everything with intelligent curiosity and has a particular fascination with hair curlers. Valentino, with his little heart-shaped, pink nose and soulful eyes, is a sweetheart who loves a good belly rub. Though a year apart and strangers when they met, they make a great pair. Ohno started out life as an outdoor stray and then was a trap-and-release cat who turned into an excellent pet. Tino was born into a feral litter but found a great Foster Dad to raise him.

I adopted Kayla (Missy) last week and I could not be happier!  She is a very sweet girl.  She loves to be petted and when I pick up her brush, she lies down on one side and allows me to brush that side for a while.  When she has had enough, she rolls over so that I can brush the other side.  She purrs the whole time!

She also likes to sleep in my lap.  She is very happy with her new home and loves to look out the front window and watch the birds. I can tell that her former owner treated her very well.

Thank you HSHV.  Keep up the good work!

About 2 months ago my girlfriend our 2 year old and I moved in to a new house with our kitty. she was doing good with the change but we noticed that she had lost some weight. We figured it was because she was lonely. Where we lived there were two other cats so we went on a search for a cat. Thats when we seen Parker and fell in love with out even meeting him. a week later we went up to meet him and everyone fell in love with him even more so we left with him the same day. When we got home he walked around for a little bit and then curled right up on the couch!

Our other cat was a little unsure of him for a few days but we are happy to say that they now give kitty kisses when ever they pass each other.

Thank you,

Corey

Hello,

We adopted Inara in February 2010. After the first two days of her being shy and getting used to her new home she was running around claiming everything she could climb on as hers. Every night since we adopted her she's cuddled up in my bed. She's my baby and she knows it. Every time I come home from class or work she'll run up to the door to welcome me.

She's become a lil' princess. She is very obedient and has already learned to come when called and plays fetch with her toys. She's part of our family now and we couldn't be happier!

My girlfriend and I adopted Cricket a few months ago, and he is settling in nicely to his new home.  He loves sitting on the back of our chair near the window to watch the birds and critters scurry about outside, and adores an open window to meow at the birds.  Despite what previous owners have said, Cricket is a loving cat and I have had no issues with him misbehaving.  I have noticed he is a very assertive cat, and has no problem jumping into the middle of things if I am not paying enough attention to him.

Cricket loves to lick and has no problem letting you know when you haven't rubbed his belly enough.  When he's not running around chasing shadows or toys in the middle of the night, he's curled up at the foot of the bed in a fuzzy ball.

Luis (formerly Pepi) is a handsome dude; I have taken hundreds of pictures of him.  Too bad I can’t send them all to you!  It has been two years since we adopted him from HSHV.  He is a major joy in our life.  We were curious about his unique charcoal grey fur with silver-tipped hair; we did some research and found that he is probably part Korat, a breed relatively new to the U.S.

He is trained to the leash, and enjoys romping in the park.  He climbs a tree then hops down to my shoulder when he’s ready.  Compact in size, yet muscular and heavy, he is an amazing athlete.

Thanks for him and for all that you do.

We just wanted to update everyone on our new family.  Abigail (now Abigail Rose) came to her new forever home in August 2006.  She was about one year old and full of energy.  Abby needed a "little" training.  She went to training and completed Basic Manners I and II.  She also completed a tricks class.  Abby loves to work.

After training, and a little maturing, we decided to add to our family.  In the past, my husband, Roger, and I have shared our home with cats as well as dogs.  We found Jiminy and Cricket at HSHV in July.  They were 10 years old and had lived with dogs before.  Perfect....now lets see how Abby feels about it.  Abby loves the kitties.  When she is too high energy for the seniors, they have a room to go to relax.  That was used quite a bit at first.  Now they lounge wherever they desire (as you can see from the picture).

Thanks everyone for caring for Abby, Jiminy and Cricket and for giving us the opportunity for sharing our home with them.  We couldn't say enough about all you good people.

Love,

Roger, Judy. Abigail Rose, Jiminy John and Cricket Rose

Bianca

Bianca became a part of our lives in spring of 03. We all think she is adorable and hilarious. She is energetic at some times of the day, but we all think she’s getting a little fat. We pamper her with treats and a heated cat bed, along with lots of pats. Since she came to our home, we have been teaching her lots of tricks. The reason for this is because some of us wanted a dog, but our family is not ready for one. She can already sit, stay, come, dance, fetch, and shake!

She is a fast learner, and we are very glad that HSHV had her. Thank you!

Hello all,

Just an update on Abby who adopted me last Friday. She is doing very well. Getting along great with Brother Bear. Learning how to walk at left heel on a leash. She has many followers on facebook already. I am hoping to train her to be a Disaster Search Dog to use in local disasters like Haiti and Katrina. She is doing well with that also. She has her first vet visit tomorrow. I have changed her name to I.V..  I am a paramedic and a member of the Washtenaw County Technical Rescue Team and our obedience trainer jokingly said to name her after something in the back of the ambulance. I at one point had two dalmatians. The female was Aerial (like a ladder truck, not a mermaid) and a male, Apparatus. One of my co-workers came up with I.V. and it stuck. She even liked it and responded to it right away.

Thank you,

Lynn Higelmire

Hi,

My husband and I adopted Teddy a year and a half ago from the HSHV.  I am happy to report that he is doing very well!  He was 2 years old when we adopted him and his previous owners were unable to take care of him.  He was a little skittish and timid when he first came to us.  He is now energetic and full of life!  He no longer spends time hiding under the couch, and loves a good game of fetch more than anything.

We are so grateful to have Teddy in our lives!  Thank you HSHV!

Hi,

We adopted Piper a few weeks ago.  She is such a doll.  When we brought her home, she ran into the house, checked out every corner of every room, even peeked behind the shower curtain, and then made herself at home!  She is housetrained, knows several commands and words, sleeps through the night, and is well behaved; thanks to her previous owner(s).  She didn't respond to Piper, so we named her Ruby.  It took less than a day to learn her new name and she continues to learn other things very quickly. I had decided I could never love another pug after the heartbreak of suddenly losing my beautiful pug 5 years ago.  Ruby showed it was possible.  And, it's taken my husband a long time after having to make the difficult decision for his beloved husky mix to be put to sleep.

We are having so much fun playing, laughing, and cuddling with her; as well as tripping over tiny tennis balls and squeaky toys!  She is an adorable, energetic, smart, curious, funny, sweet, perfect pug (with a double-curled tail)!  The pictures show her lounging on the people couch watching over her kingdom and also snoozing on one of her own couches.  We are so happy to have her and love her very much.  Thank you to everyone at the HSHV for taking good care of Ruby until we ended up being lucky enough to be owned by a pug.

Hi All,

I have had a great experience adopting my new kitty,  Jerry (charlie Brown). He has been a blessing to me.  I began my journey at the beginning of December by packing up and moving to Toronto after graduation and leaving Mom and Dad behind.  I quickly learned that I needed a companion. I soon made the decision to come home and adopt at the Huron Valley Human Society where we have always looked for adoptions and adopted a few in the past.  A few weeks later I found Jerry waiting for a home, he was in rough shape and sad when I adopted him. He had an open sore from cuterebra while a stray. He has completely healed physically and emotionally since then.  Jerry has adapted very  nicely to being a Canadian cat and loves to play with feet and talk to birds. We have many years of adventures in front of us, and I couldn't think of a better kitty to take with me on the journey.

We just wanted to let you know that Moxie ( formerly Vermillion) has adjusted very well to our household.  She and Allie (also from HSHV) are good friends and they can be heard running up and down the stairs at night.  She adjusted very well to the location of the litter boxes and food dishes and is now teasing the dogs whenever she wants to.  They still try to chase her, but are beginning to understand that she has her claws and will not back down.

We're really happy that Moxie chose us to be her forever family.  Thank you to the wonderful folks at HSHV and to Dean for fostering Vermillion before we adopted her.

Greetings to our friends at the Huron Valley Humane Society !

I am writing to give you a update on our lovable Leni (Echo). Leni is everything we could ever ask for and much much more. It was almost as if she had always lived in our home, a bond was made immediately. Leni has brought so much joy to our lives, and I'm more then positive the feeling is mutual on her end. Now a days Leni spends her days playing with her toy mice, running in and out of her pink & orange tunnel, chasing her laser light, eating her yummy HALO food, watching out the window, and napping in all of her favorite spots (mostly in our laps).

Thank you so much for all you do at the shelter, your team is remarkable! If it wasn't for you guys we would not have our Leni...

Keep up the great work!

A few days before Christmas '09, I had the privilege of adopting an adorable young American Eskimo boy.  He was named "Pekoe" at the time, but has adapted well to his new name, "Ivan."  It was quite an ordeal to meet Ivan and bring him 130+ miles home, but he's so very worth it.

He has become my near-constant companion, often called spoiled for all the car rides and trips I take him along for (the attached photo is from one of his visits to Holland's frozen lakeshore).  He's usually attentive and smart, and is quickly learning and honing his repertoire of commands.

He has filled a hole that had been hollow in my life for far too long; 3 years ago I had suddenly lost my dear half-eskie companion, Ivy, of 15 years...  Memories of Ivy made everything a little bittersweet with Ivan in the beginning, but he quickly showed his own personality and I've come to adore the energetic individual he is :)  After just the first day, he was an inseparable companion to my housemate's two dogs.  He is even good around the cats.

I'm so glad to be sharing my life with such a great dog!

Thank you, HVHS.  I look forward to many more years with my new friend.

Hi,

I wanted you to know that my new dog Walter

(formerly named Slinky) that I got from the Humane Society of Huron Valley on  Feb 7., is a wonderful, kind and gentle dog, and is doing great!

He loves his new bed, his cat sister and brother, his tiny dachshund cousin, going for walks, rides in the car and of course his new mom! It is so refreshing to bring home a dog who is already house trained and obeys commands so that we can concentrate all of our energy on getting to know and love each other.

Thank you Humane Society for the good work that you do and for enabling me to bring home such a dear friend!

Hello,

Just wanted to let everybody know that Otis "The Road Warrior" is doing awesome in his new home.

It took him a while to get over his little upper respiratory infection, but once he did he sure kicked it up a notch!

He loves to eat, follow us around the house, eat some more, let the dogs know who's boss, and just relaxing in his new digs.  Thank you very much for everything that you guys (and gals) do.  We attached a picture of Otis on the "kitty condo" looking as handsome as ever.

Sincerely,

Chris and Becky McNulty

Hello!

I adopted two kittens from HSHV in July 2009- "Rose" and "Ozzie". "Rose" is now named Pax, and "Ozzie" is now named Cat Stevens. When I first introduced the two to each other, I was a bit nervous they would never get along! They kept fighting all the time. It only took some time though for the two to become a pair! Pax is my little fluffy bundle of joy, and Cat Stevens is my handsome mini-tiger now. He won't stop growing it seems! Pax thinks she is a dog, and is always underfoot, looking for attention, or curious about whatever someone is doing. Cat Stevens takes a bit longer to warm up to people, but he's a real cuddler. They are both friendly, adorable, funny, and very playful!

Before I planned to adopt these two, I was planning a 6 month trip to New Zealand, but plans fell through at the last minute. I was very upset, and I wanted to do something fun on the day I was supposed to leave to go overseas to take my mind off of it- and coming to HSHV and adopting Pax and Cat Stevens was it! My kittens have brought me, and anyone who has met them, so much happiness and laughter the past 8 months. I wouldn't trade anything for what they've given me! :)

Thank you HSHV!

In February of last year you rescued a starving Australian Cattle Dog and named her Calista. I was fortunate enough to be her adopter last March. A couple days ago we celebrated her 4th birthday, a date we picked because her life truly began when you rescued her. I wanted to update you on her progress and share a picture from her birthday party with you. We renamed her Rosebud, and usually call her Rosie.

The past year has been a challenge for all of us as she learned how to be a well behaved house dog, but through it all she has delighted us with her will to learn and her consistantally happy attitude! She makes us laugh with her antics, sometimes to the point where we have a hard time telling her no! She loves to play with Daisy, and the two of them are inseperable.

She now weighs 34lbs, which fits her frame perfectly. She is very muscular and loves to demonstrate her leaping and running ability. I plan to enroll her in a beginning agility class this spring, as I think she would excel in it and enjoy it. She amazes us with her intelligence and willingness to learn, and is always ready to try new things. Rosie has fit right in with our family, and is so much fun to have around! She has so much personality, and is a very loving little girl. To celebrate her birthday, my daughter baked and decorated a dog cake, which you can see her "blowing out her candles"

on and eating in the pictures. She also loves to open presents, Christmas was a riot as she learned that trick!

Thank you again for recsuing Rosie, she is a great little dog!!

Hi!

Just wanted to let you know that I could not be happier with Miss Alice!  She is so adorable and fun to just let hop around.  She's really enjoying all the free time outside of the cage.  She's adjusting well and even getting use to all the yarn and knitted goods around.

Thanks again!

We were writing to thank you for the wonderful addition to our family. We adopted Moxi ( formally Sophie) in April 2009. We had an older dog, Oakly, who would get bored when we weren't home. We really thought he could use a pal.

Moxi was only two months when we adopted her but she has grown very fast. We originally thought she would be a big husky dog, but we think now she is some sort of shepherd mix, she has so much energy. She definitely gives Oakly a run for his money! We couldn't be happier and the house wouldn't be complete without her.

Thank You,

Courtney and Brandon Bray

UPDATE ON FLASH

We recently had a post on our Facebook page from the family that adopted Flash! Many people may remember Flash because he was with us for quite a while and was a laidback dog who many people and staff members loved.

Here's a new picture of Flash and his family loves him very much!

Here is KC (AKA Spuds) who came to our family from the Humane Society in September of 06. You may not remember, but the fish he is resting his head on is part of his 2009 Walk and Wag bag.  I suspect he’s contemplating walking again this year.

We’ve had our challenges with KC.  Being a beagle, there have been several adventures. Him finding small gaps in our fence allowing for fast getaways when the wind was producing too many good smells to ignore, and us wandering around the neighborhood in a panic looking for our runaway boy.  Other than that, he’s such a mellow fellow and regardless of what his brother Logan (from the A2 Cat Clinic) and sister Macy (from HSHV in 08) are doing, he just goes with the flow.

Our family has been enriched and we thank everyone there for making it full of fun, pleasure and love.

Thank you,

Catherine Pineau-Oishi

Hi HSHV:

I changed Toby's name to Blu.  Being a blue pit and having crystal blue eyes, it seemed only natural.  I flew him back to NYC (through Philadelphia) two days after Thanksgiving.  He was so good - mellow, patient, quiet.  He was only 18 lbs then and fit perfectly under the seat in front of me on the plane (picture provided).  He's now over 30 lbs and the talk of the town.  I have a dog walker that walks him twice a day and everybody in the neighborhood knows and loves him.  He is very mild mannered and playful.  He has only barked twice since I've had him.  He gets along well with all dogs and is trying to make friends with my girlfriend's cats, but they're less interested in bonding with him.  I work at Google and have brought him into the office a couple times to play with the other dogs and my coworkers.  We're going to start training classes as soon as the weather gets a little warmer, but he knows the basic commands - sit, stay, down, come, etc.  He's by far the most handsome pooch at the dog parks and gets distracted by all the varieties of dogs he can play with.

All in all, Blu's been a blessing.  A lot of work having to apartment train him, but he's so worth it.

Hi!

I was writing you all to thank you for introducing us to Ralph and Carly! We first adopted Carly into our home and she just fit right in. She was energetic, cuddly, and playful! Not only that but she has been so healthy and strong :) Carly cannot get enough of us when we come home and loves attention. At night, though, Carly still wanted our attention when we needed sleep! So we decided she needed a buddy to keep her company when we weren't around and at night. Carly is such a people person, but we found she is an animal person too! We came back to the Humane Society where we then adopted Ralph. Ralph and Carly hit it off from the day they met. They had no trouble adjusting to the other one being there. They share everything and play with one another constantly. The best part is when they cuddle and one will lick the others face. At night you can hear them running through the hall playing together. They are so happy and we are so happy to have a big kitty family! Thank you for all you do!

Sincerely,
Julia Krause and Lonny Stewart

P.S WeI hope you like the picture :) Ralph is the white kitty and Carly is the brown fluffy one.

Eight weeks ago I adopted a two-and-a-half-year-old kitty named Tizzy from the Humane Society of Huron Valley. I got a lot of help from her foster mother, Patti Maki. Tizzy had been through a lot in her short life; she had had surgery for a terrible corneal abrasion on her left eye. Patti took care of her and put drops in her eye several times a day for several weeks before and after the surgery. Tizzy's eye finally healed, and other than looking a little cloudy, it's fine now. She seems to have sight in it.

I was looking for a kitty a little past the kitten stage. I'm a lonely old lady who was looking for a kitty who needed some lovin' as much as I did. Tizzy was a little shy at first, had to check her surroundings out. I did not push the relationship, and she has decided I'm here to love and please as she is doing for me!!!  I told her she could call me "Mom," "Ma-ma," "Grand-ma," or "G-ma-ma," but she calls me "Meow," and that works. I respond!!

I would like to thank Patti and HSHV for helping me find her! Everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Thank you,

    Doris Thompson and "Tizzy"

Hello,

I am just wanting to let you know how happy we are to have Fluffy (who we changed his name to Black Jack) and Jenga in our home.  We adopted them in November of 2009.  We were coming there to adopt one kitten, but ended up adopting two kittens to ensure that they each had a companion.  We adopted our dog Olive (who we changed her name to Brooke) in September of 2007 through your facility also and she is such a wonderful friend and companion to our family.  I love to take her for walks and she is by my side all the time. The the kittens get along so well together and with our dog and it is so fun to watch them play together.  Each of the kittens take turns sleeping with Brooke and it is so cute when they do. Jenga thinks that Brooke is her mother. When I am petting Brooke, the kittens sit behind her while her tail is wagging, playing with it. The kittens are so funny the dog loves them and they love her. My daughter wanted a kitten for Christmas and now we have a family of pets who all get along and we love so much. It is hard to get pictures of them all together, but I am attaching a few photos of them in our home. Thank you for all you do for the animals.

Sincerely,

Tammy

I adopted two adult cats, Lincoln (now Henry), and Bromley (now Mudge), several months ago and first met them in the HSHV community cat room in the old facility.  They are not a natural pair, but knew one another at least a bit, from hanging out in the community cat room.  They have bonded beautifully from the very first day.  I did not need to separate them; they seemed to take comfort in one another, especially Mudge, who was more timid and frightened.  Henry has been really social and relaxed from the start, even with my 4 year-old daughter, whom he not only tolerates, but seems to seek out!  It took a month to even catch Mudge to get a collar on him, but he now is much more relaxed and seeks out petting from me.  The sweetest thing is how they snuggle, bathe, and frolic with one another!  They race and pounce and wrestle, and are the best of friends.  I have not had cats in years, but didn't feel ready to bring another dog into our lives until my daughter is a little older.  I'm grateful to provide a good home to two such sweet and social cats, who are the best of buddies.

Best,

To All of the Caring People at HSHV,

On Monday we adopted little Burt, the shih tzu.  We have renamed him Maxwell (or Max for short).  He has two doggie older sisters here named Mia and Maggie, so we thought Maxwell would fit right in for a name.  He is just an absolute darling dog.  He is so well mannered, polite, and pottie trained.  He loves riding in the car, laying around watching TV, playing, examining our box of doggie toys, and checking things out around here.  The first night with us he jumped right up on the bed and went to sleep at the foot of the bed.  His shih tzu sister likes to sleep up there too, so it's nice and cuddly. Our little white Pekinese hangs out under the bed. Thanks for being so nice to him and cleaning him up so well.  We are enjoying him greatly already and will love him forever!

Sincerely,

Laurel and Larry Brenner

Hey there,

Sarah and I have been remiss in writing this "Happy Tail", but I think that accumulating memories since August will have made this Happy Tail all the more genuine. When we first met Cherry at HSHV she was immediately personable, and noticeably quiet – two often mutually exclusive qualities. We walked her and she was calm – still we could feel her pit strength straining some at the harness; we played with her in a back room and she entertained both herself and us, alternating between throwing toys to herself and running over to us to get loved; we ran around with her in the large fenced-in play area, and she was fast and fun, beautiful to watch and exciting to engage. We knew we wanted her badly, that we could give her a wonderful, loving home, and she us a wonderful, loving friend.

It is almost five months later, and our love for Cherry grows daily. She is a goofball – running around the living room and the snow-covered fields with the same vigor, chasing her tail for ten minutes at a time, sleeping with her arms straight up in the air; and she is a sweetheart – wagging her tail tirelessly when we come home, kissing us when we wake up and when we go to sleep, and all hours in between, insisting she’s a lap dog and that she can always press herself closer to us (until either she or we or all of us collapse).

In addition to her limitless affection and personality around us, Cherry is terribly excited to meet new people and animals of all sizes. She has never growled, and she does not bark (but she does snore boldly). We are thrilled to be with Cherry as she matures and experiences more and more. We cannot stress enough that she is a sweety through and through. Thank you for introducing us.

Love,

Matt and Sarah

Gertrude the Great Dane, she is now "Greta".  She is a beautiful girl, she weighed 82lbs when we brought her home, skinny and sad.  She was found and brought to you as a stray, as the story goes. No one claimed her, how that is, I don't know.

When I came upon her, she was hangin' on the couch of the adoption center, still drugged from spaying! You must have known she would soon be swept up! She was listed as a "wallflower", shy, not much into people she didn't know. She was also classified as an older dog, 5ish. Old for a Dane. Well, when I saw her, I was in love! She came home with me a week later!

I consulted a breeder in my area for tips on how to put weight on her safely, and she seems to think she is much younger than expected! GREAT! So here she is 1 1/2 yrs later, happy, couch potato! Oh, by the way, she is up to a healthy 107lbs!

She is great with my older dog, children and new people who come by the house. Thank you HSHV for the experience. I will always encourage people to adopt instead of "buy". Check out her before and after pix!

Dear HSHV,

We can't believe it's been a year since we adopted Mittens and Penny (aka Dottie and Checkers) from the shelter. We can't imagine not having them in our lives! They are so much fun! Mittens has a sweet and gentle personality. She likes to follow you around during the day, getting into whatever you are doing. She also loves chasing her tail and watching the washing machine. Penny can be a little overly active at times, but loves to sleep on your lap after she has worn herself out. She also enjoys playing with pipe cleaners and drinking water out of the sink. They are always playful with each other and run around the house whenever they can. Without them, life would be a lot more dreary because It's always great to cuddle with them whenever we are not in the best mood. We all love Mittens and Penny so very much, and hope to have bunches of fun with them in the future!

Thank you HSHV!

Back at the beginning of September I adopted a kitten, Lovey Dovey renamed Taffy. She was a sweet little ball of fur that loved to cuddle and talk. She has become great friends with my mother's shepherd, Casey. As you can see in the picture, they love to cuddle together. Taffy has been a wonderful addition to the family.

She keeps us all entertained.

Hello,

I adopted my cattle dog/lab mix Spike in August of 2005, and I wanted to send you an update. When I started traveling abroad for research, there was no way I could leave Spike behind, so he spent nine months with me in Prague, and now we're several months into a year-long stay in Paris. Spike doesn't like the flights, but because much of Europe has more relaxed rules about dogs, he's had all kinds of new experiences. Spike has mastered public transportation, done a little shopping with me, and spent many an hour in restaurants, cafes, and bars. He even went to a jazz concert in Prague on his birthday. Spike makes friends wherever he goes, and he helps me integrate into the local community through other dog owners. He's become an international ambassador for shelter dogs.

Thanks so much for bringing a wonderful dog--and travel companion--into my life.

We adopted a young dog back in november, and I am glad to say she has made a wonderful new addition to the family. Her name was formaly known as penny, but now the kids have renamed her to Calli, a fitting name she responds to well. I believe that there was someone in the office that allowed us to bring her home in spite of the fact that we could'nt bring are other dog in, for fear that they would'nt get along. I'm glad to say that they get along perfectly. And a hearty thank you from the whole family for alowwing us to do so. She is already house trained, no chewing on things except for her toys (and there are alot of toys from her first christmas ), she loves to run and play in the yard with Nieko for hours. Once again thank you.
