Board of State Canvassers Certify More Than 275,000 Petition Signatures
On June 2, 2005, the Board of State Canvassers officially approved and certified more than 275,000 petition signatures presented by the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban. This will place the referendum on the November 2006 ballot. Official state certification also halts the shooting of mourning doves until after the November 2006 election. House Bill 4254, the Dissection Alternatives House Bill
This bill states, "The Board of a school district or Board of Directors of a public school academy shall ensure that, if a course includes dissection of an animal in a classroom and a pupil expresses a moral objection to the dissection, the teacher shall offer an alternative activity to the dissection." You can help pass this bill pass by calling your state representative and asking him or her to vote for HB 4254.
