Students from Hillside Elementary School voted to help animals for their community day of service project. So they chose to help the animals of HSHV! The students made bandanas for the dogs, feather toys for the cats and rolls with hay in them for the rabbits. We hope you know how much you have helped these animals continue to stay safe happy and healthy while they await their forever homes. Thank you for your love and support of all animals and for your kind hearts!

Young Mother of Seven Kittens finds new home
I lived with cats my whole life, and after moving to my own place and settling in, I knew I was missing something. I had visited HSHV several times before, but now I was ready to adopt! Then I saw her in October 2017. A beautiful three-year-old Lynx Point Siamese mix who had been surrendered and was recovering from a very difficult birth of seven kittens. Betty White was her given name but I call her Nina. Nina is the queen of the house. She is so affectionate but still a little sassy just when you think you know her.

Preschoolers give back to animals!
Animal lover, volunteer of and former humane education teacher at HSHV, Renee wanted to teach her class more about animals. So the Preschoolers of Triangle Cooperative Preschool spent some time to learn all about pets and how to make enrichment to help the animals in need. The children were all very motivated to help the animals and many have adopted their own pets from HSHV! They were able to donate many wonderful items including towels, food, toys, and dishes. We hope you all know how much you have helped these animals continue to stay safe, happy and healthy while they await their forever homes. Thank

Fate brought Us Luke
Early Friday September 21, 2018 started as a normal day, and then I pulled up the Love Train pics that would be up for adoption that day.. Our boys instantly wanted an new pup and we had discussed getting another dog for our Lucy Goose to have a four-legged sibling. After racing to HSHV and pulling #10, we thought for sure we would not be bringing home the pup we thought was meant to be a a Sullivan. Fast Forward—sitting and waiting, we finally heard #10, and we walked into the room. Instantly, we fell in love with Luke. He

Kittens with white socks
I didn’t have any particular plans to adopt, but I saw these adorable kittens with white socks on the HSHV website, and knew I had to go meet them! The rest—as they say—is history. Nelson and Hardy are almost a year old now and love to sprint after laser pointers and cuddle together on all the chairs in the house. They make coming home the best part of my day, and I’ll always be grateful to HSHV for bringing them to me! Beagle and Dane, now Nelson and Hardy

Foster fail
Juice …this poor boy came to us May of 2017, literally cowering in the back of his cage. We fostered him and his twin brother and called them the ” cheesy poofs.” My daughter was so attached, as was he to her, so we adopted. I was at peace with him never being ” my cat.. Surprise! This soft, sweet, introverted boy spends 21 hours a day in my room. He loves other animals but young men not so much. He makes muffins and is a gentle, undemanding presence. He encourages quiet and peace in the house (or he hides).

Mr. Pete, Gentle Giant!
After more than 5 months, Mr. Pete (“Marion” @ HSHV) has finally gained some courage. He overcame profound fear, living under our bed for his first 2 months with us, and spent the next 2 months in cautious, limited forays beyond that safety zone. From the start Mr. Pete delivered melodious purr-chortles, head-butts, and love nibbles when flushed out from under the bed, but retreated back there after only 10 minutes of adoration from me and my husband. He particularly bonded to my husband in early fearful days, nearly glued to his body, unbudgeable. Since those early days, Mr. Pete
