Terrific Troop #40506

The girls in Troop #40506 are kind kids indeed! They love animals and giving back to the community, which is why they decided to help HSHV. The troop used troop funds to purchase fabric and worked together to make fleece no-sew blankets. Then, they donated their blankets to HSHV to help our animal residents. Thank you so much, Troop #40506! We appreciate your kindness, and we know the animals will love the blankets you made for them!

Velma’s amazing transformation!

Velma came in to HSHV this past summer with her friend Daphne as strays. She came with tons of wounds and painful paw injuries, but that never dulled her sparkle. She won the hearts of staff and volunteers showing off her loveable and snuggly personality, so much so that an adoptions staff member had to take her home and spoil her endlessly! She has been doing amazing at home with her kitty friends and is learning the rules of the house! Velma loves to chew on bones, throw stuff animals around, go on walks or sprints with mom, and of

Elliot (Ace) gets the chance to be a good boy

Hello everyone….my name is Elliot, but I once went by the name Ace. I am a 6 month old German Shepherd. I met my new mom and grandma when they came to visit me one Sunday morning in Sept. 2021. I have to admit, I wasn’t on my best behavior when we went for a walk around the HSHV grounds that day. I jumped up on them and pulled on the leash. I nipped at their hands and refused to listen. To be honest, I don’t know why my mom came back for me. But, she says she could see,

Importance of a safe and dry shelter for TNR cats in the winter

TNR is the only scientifically proven way to reduce the overpopulation of cats, and as a bonus it is safe and humane. However, when TNR surgery is performed in the winter, there are safety concerns that must be addressed to make sure we aren’t hurting the cats we are trying to help. When cats undergo TNR surgery to be sterilized and vaccinated they have their bellies shaved, females more than males, but both have a bare spot that can get wet/cold and lead to suffering, frost bite, or even fatalities in cold weather.             For

Ajay’s Awesome Birthday

Ajay is a kind kid indeed! For his birthday this year, Ajay asked his classmates to bring in donations for the animal residents at HSHV. He made a poster to remind his friends to bring in the donations and a box to collect the donations. To keep the donations safe, Ajay took them home with him after school every day for a whole week and was careful to keep his dogs at home away from them. Ajay collected toys for the dogs and cats, food, and other supplies to donate to the animal residents at HSHV. Thank you so much

Olive finds her family

A few months ago, I noticed that my 3 year old cat Frankie seemed a little lonely. It was just the two of us and I work a lot, so I decided to look into getting him a small friend. I was immediately drawn to a teeny tiny kitten who was super quiet and shy. I brought her home, and after a few long days of slowly introducing her into my house, she met Frankie and it was love at first sight. She’s now a super playful and fun 5 month old kitten who spends every second with her big
