Orange Kitty Finds a New Girlfriend

10 years ago we moved to a property with 4 1/2 acres and several outbuildings. We decided it was time to add cats back into our lives so we adopted barn cats. When you feed cats outside you can end up with more cats. One of the strays who wandered in was a large orange and white “feral” male. Eventually he warmed up to us and I named him Orange Kitty. He made friends with a long-haired, senior tortie, Isabella, who was part of our barn crew. They became a great couple and I would find them snuggled up together

Our one year anniversary with Tashi!

We adopted Tashi (formerly Blueberry) one year ago today when she was 7 months old. She has brought so much joy and happiness to our family! She loves everyone! Loves walks, car rides and going places. She loves to play with her toys and tug of war with her sock. She loves laundry day and waits to see if mom drops a sock on the ground so she can steal it. She is very smart and learns quickly! She has become very attached to her family and absolutely loves her Grandma to pieces. She loves to lay in her fluffy

Our gift from above

Just before our lovely snow storm on January 12th, our family (Josh and Kassie) decided it was a perfect day to make another trip to HSHV. Here’s a little backstory. Josh and I had our first dog together two years ago. His name was Blu Barry, he was an Alaskan Malmute/Boxer mix and was just a year old when we got the unfortunate diagnosis of large cell lymphoma. Two months after his diagnosis, Blu passed peacefully after our tremendous attempts with chemo. After he passed we knew our hearts longed for another companion but it just had to be the

Adopted by a couple in their 20’s

My boyfriend and I moved into our first apartment together and decided something was missing. We headed to HSHV to “say hi” to all the dogs and cats! We made our rounds and were headed out when a volunteer asked if we had met Alma. We completely missed her because of how shy and quiet she was! We decided to take her a on a walk and she was so so sweet, we fell in love! We brought her home a few days later and she quickly came out of her shell. She is our baby and we do everything

Frannie’s #1 Fans!

My partner and I went to HSHV just to check out the adoption process and ended up falling in love with a tiny black puppy named Neapolitan. She was extra cuddly and weirdly quiet compared to her siblings, which made her even more endearing, and we absolutely couldn’t leave without her! She is already a huge part of our lives, and we couldn’t imagine not having her as part of our family! We are absolutely obsessed with Frannie, and we hope more people choose to randomly stop by HSHV because you may just find your new best bud! Neapolitan now

Boomer and Jasper in their Furever Home :)

We adopted Jasper/Jaspy from Tiny Lions Cat Cafe. The first time we saw him he was sleeping, and he looked so adorable we couldn’t help but take the baby home 🤎 A few months later we saw our Boomer, just sitting there patiently waiting to go to his furever home, and we got him as the oldest addition to our family 🧡

Athena May

I had been wanting a dog for a while but couldn’t seem to find the right one who fit me. Then about 7 years ago I went to HSHV and saw Athena. We hit it off right away. I walked with her for about 2 hours and even lost my truck keys there. Needless to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me, she is my ride or die and we spend about 20 plus hours a day together. She even goes to work with me! I’m so glad to have found my forever best bud.

Saving Animals with Savings

Simon is such a kind kid!  He loves animals and decided that he wanted to help the animal residents at HSHV, so he started saving his allowance each week.  Each week, Simon placed a portion of his allowance in a share jar for the animals at HSHV, then donated the funds to HSHV!  Thank you, Simon!  We are so grateful for your generosity, and we know the animals are too!

Happy & Safe

This kitty tried to bite me before we left HSHV. He had learned to use his teeth to defend, get attention, protest and was easily frightened. I have never had a cat with so many triggers, but now he has settled and is calm, he plays and loves his new house. He still will nip but not to hurt, he is fun to play with and never stops chirping and humming, even in his sleep. We love him. I am so glad I didn’t give up on the day I went to see him. This is his forever home. Clementine

Nora’s Awesome Birthday!

Nora is a very kind kid!  She loves animals and her family adopted their cats from HSHV, which inspired her to help the other animals at HSHV.  Nora recently celebrated her birthday and asked for donations to HSHV instead of gifts!  She collected dog food, dog treats, dog toys, cat food, cat treats, cat toys, and leashes.  Thank you so much for thinking of the animals on your birthday, Nora!  We appreciate your kindness, and we know the animals do too!
