A new Pep in his step!

My husband and I adopted Cash (formerly Flint) a few months ago. He was very anxious and scared when we brought him home but quickly warmed up to us over the few days after that. He loves to run, he could run for days if you let him! He has made the perfect disc golf and hiking companion and we can’t wait to take him on his first camping trip this summer! His favourite hobbies include running, and finding sticks, and running with sticks. He loves his afternoon naps with mom, and evening playtime with dad followed by a banana!

Saving Animals with Savings

Simon is such a kind kid!  He loves animals and decided that he wanted to help the animals at HSHV, so he started saving his allowance each week.  Each week, Simon placed a portion of his allowance in a share jar, then donated the funds to HSHV!  Thank you, Simon!  We are so grateful for your generosity, and we know the animals are too!

The Void Had Me At Hello

March 26, 2025 marks half a year of us being under the same roof. I remember last September, after learning that I had to take my first test in my Honors Art Appreciation class, which was balanced with 15 other credits, I was thinking about a source of energy that could strengthen my mental health. I was excited about the idea of getting a four-legged companion, and without further ado, I did it after a few weeks of thinking about it. When I first saw him on the website, I felt a special connection and immediately decided to “summon” this

Sir Ashton finds his forever home!

In October, a surprise visitor showed up in our backyard — a sweet, scruffy cat who we later learned was Sir Ashton, a senior kitty who had been missing from his foster home for several months. We didn’t know his story at first, but from the moment we met him, it was clear he had a gentle spirit and a whole lot of love to give. We welcomed him in, gave him a warm place to rest, and soon after, officially made him part of our family — now under the name Jet. Despite being 15, Jet is absolutely thriving.

Marley Needs a Foster

Age: 4  Sex: Female  Breed: Lab Mix  Weight: 70 Pounds Marley is a sensitive girl who needs some time to open up and show her true personality. Marley is avoidant of close handling (leashing) by strangers here at the shelter, but enjoys pets and attention from familiar staff members. Marley could potentially go to foster with another dog, but needs to meet any dog siblings, and would likely due best with a quiet, calm dog. We have no history with cats, so would need a very slow

Truck is Seeking Foster

Age: 3  Sex: Male  Breed: Mastiff  Weight: 73 Pounds Truck has been at the shelter since mid-February and is getting tired of living in a kennel! He could potentially go to foster with another dog. Here at the shelter, he was socially appropriate when meeting another dog, although did not show much interest in playing. He preferred to just coexist in the play yard with the other dog. Since he arrived as a stray, we have no home history with cats. A slow introduction will be necessary if you have cats in the home. We also do not have any history on kids, so

Hollyhock Wants a Foster

She picks up quickly on training, she is very food motivated and understands new concepts well. She really loves her play groups here at the shelter, so much so that she gets frustrated seeing dogs on leash and may bark at them because she just wants to run up and play! She would love to go to a home with a doggy friend who can match her energy level and playfulness, likely a similarly sized young, social
