Cardboard Box Puppy

I was about to leave work (at HSHV). As I was walking through Intake, a man came up to the door holding a cardboard box. The cardboard box contained a puppy inside – the cutest puppy ever. I thought that would be the last time I’d see her. Maybe 2 weeks later, my boyfriend and I started talking about getting a Love Train puppy. But we went to the shelter on my day off to see what adoptable puppies we had on the floor…as soon as we walked into the puppy room, I saw her and instantly recognized who she

Avocado turns into a Ghost

I went to Tiny Lions thinking, “I’m not getting a kitten I want an older cat.” I had lost my dog unexpectedly to a rare autoimmune disease, where the body was attacking her red blood cells. I found “Avocado” now Ghost at Tiny Lions. She wasn’t running around like the other kittens, she was just chilling. She pawed at my hand and then took her mouth across my nails. Our time was then up, and before I knew it I asked how I go about adopting. It took her some time to get used to my room, and before I

Ziggy made our home complete

We adopted Ziggy September of 2020. He was one who had a rough start to life. We have made up for that since he has come to our home. He loves going to daycare, he loves his walks and he loves his squeaky balls. He has been a great addition to our family and he is very loved. Crush now Ziggy

“Black cats don’t photograph well”- Myth Busted!

We had lost our old man cat to cancer, and our sadness compelled us to take a look – not ready to adopt yet. But then there she was, bald tummy and all, in the first cage I looked into. “Sylvia,” her name tag said. I asked her about her name and about her bald tummy and why she was by herself…meow meow meow she answered every question. It was almost like she was asking us too adopt her. We came back for her the next day and we have never regretted it. We call her Daisy Sue and we

Goliath’s new family!

We adopted Goliath in July when we had lost a previous guinea pig. I fell in love with him on the website immediately. I went to the shelter the next day and he was very friendly. I have another 5 year old male guinea pig, Buddy, at home and was hoping I could get a partner for him. When I brought Goliath home, I originally had him by himself so he could get accustomed to his new surroundings. About a week later, I put him in a playpen with Buddy. Goliath and Buddy were loving being together and I decided

Michael the one-eyed wonder!

We adopted Michael (Mickey) near the end of June after we fell in love with him on HSHV’s website. After a few weeks of acclimation and some learning curves, Mike is a lovely addition to our feline family! His two older brothers, Cooper and Longitude, love him and dote on him constantly. We’ve even seen Long groom him! His adoption listing said he was shy, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. He’s an outgoing, social, and inquisitive 4-month-old kitten with tons of energy! We’re so happy he’s a member of our family! Mickey now Michael

Quite a pair

Apollo (gray) was adopted from HSHV the same weekend we adopted Ashes (black) from Tiny Lions over two years ago. They’ve become best friends and even though they quibble like siblings sometimes, they love each other very much. Apollo is a mama’s boy and loves to snuggle at the end of the day. Ashes is a troublemaker, but is a very sweet and loving girl. They’ve brought us a lot of joy in the last two years. Our family can’t imagine life without them!

Junie finds her furrever home

Junie now Janie Junie was special needs. I understand she didn’t take to shelter living. At all! We adopted her last month after almost a year in foster homes, and she is thriving. Thanks to the behavior team and the foster Moms, she has turned into a loving and happy-go-lucky dog! Gets along with our other dog. Can be pretty sassy at times! A great addition to our home.

My New Best Friend

Cleo now Pantalaimon I adopted Cleo (now Pantalaimon) in June 2022. When I went into her kitty condo to meet her she jumped right down to greet me and then settled into my lap. I knew right then we’d be good friends. We are having a great time playing and cuddling, and she spends the night curled up alongside my legs. Each day is better for having her in it!

Boss seeks employment with family

I got to the shelter. It was very busy. I asked to see Joshua. The workers talk on earphones and I heard, does she know that he will bite her? Well out came lil’ man on a leash. He let me touch him.
