I’m told that little Stewie was one in a litter of three kittens found in Hamtramck, and they were transferred to HSHV just four days before I visited. I was looking for a young adult cat, but somehow ended up sitting in a room with three adorable kittens. His bigger brother and sister were so brave, climbing all over me. He wouldn’t come out from the kitty tower, but he let me snake my hand in to pet his head. He purred. Something about him had me sold. Our family has endured a lot of unexpected, traumatizing changes this past

Puck & Bowie
One year ago today I came to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, still in mourning over my deceased cat and looking for new feline companions. I found a pair of black and white brothers who were, at the time, named Nate and Mickey. Someone who worked there put a note on the outside of their cage pleading that anyone who was interested in adopting one of them to adopt both. I didn’t really need to be asked that, because I wanted two cats, but I still want to praise whoever it was who had spent time with the boys

We are so glad to have him and love him so much!!!! Uno now Balboa (Bobo)

Two peas in a pod
Luna and Pounce came home with us in July 2016 as 3 month old kittens. Pounce quickly earned his name (for pouncing on his sister incessantly), while Luna took a little longer. Pounce is too smart for his own good sometimes, and Luna is just about the sweetest (if not a little standoff ish at times). Both are very inquisitive, and deeply hilarious. We’re so thankful for the richness they bring to our lives. Thank you for your BOGO kitten special! Smashpop & Bristler, now Luna & Pounce

Coraline, Cat Supervisor Extraordinaire!
I adopted Coraline in September 2018. I had never had a cat before, and even though I’d read a lot about cat ownership beforehand, the experience was better than I could have imagined. Coraline and my boyfriend bonded immediately, and therefore she became an avid watcher of soccer, wrestling, and football, in addition to the period dramas she watches with me. She loves chasing mice and saying hello and “I love you” with a lick of your arm (or your face if you let her). She observes my yoga practices from a safe distance but curls up with me while

Gandalf found a forever home
17 years ago, we bought our first home. With the increase in space we decided to go from one cat to two, giving Chloe (also from HSHV) a lifelong companion. Gandalf is still grieving the loss of his sister but has become even more loving in her absence. An elderly gentleman now, he still loves his place on the bed…right on top of the clean laundry.

Finding Brothers
When my husband and I started dating, we always wanted two dogs. We went looking for dogs, even before we knew we were fully ready for one. After we got married in July of 2016, we really started looking. It became a difficult process as dogs we found online were already adopted by the time we could meet them. One random day, my husband asked me if I wanted to go furniture shopping for our new home and I countered his offer by saying we should check out HSHV. We found our sweet Angus in a kennel and knew he

Nimbus found after four months missing
I adopted Nimbus in March, just before the lockdown orders went into effect and I was just one week into work from home. He was a five year old former stray who cozied up to me right away. Through the months March to July, he was my primary companion. In August, I decided to road trip with him to see family. But when we stopped along the way to see my best friend, Nimbus escaped. We searched in the hours and days after for him, with no sign of him. By September when I returned home, I decided to adopt

1 year old Bailey needed a forever home
We had 2 dogs who passed within months of each other due to age and I felt so lost without a fur baby. I knew I wanted to adopt and was looking for a Jack Russell. My neighbor had one mixed with Chihuahua and he was pretty sweet. Then I saw Bailey on the HSHV adoption page and knew she was for us. She was a Jack Russell mix. We got her home and we loved her immediately. She didn’t know her name or any commands. If she could, she would escape and run down the street with us running
