We were going to adopt 1 kitten…and the family who walked in before us adopted the one we had our eye on. I was expecting to leave that day without a kitten, but we looked around anyway and I found the cutest, most playful kitten! He let me just hold him and give him all the kisses. But we still weren’t sure. My husband was playing with the other kittens in his litter and found one he really liked. But we were only going to get one! Well, that lasted for about 5 minutes before we decided to adopt two:

Spaniel rescue melts hearts
After 13 long years of life, my parents’ Cocker Spaniel succumbed to a list of health problems. My father swore up and down that he’d never get another dog – the overall experience involving said list of health problems was very emotionally draining. But through a series of events, we received news that a one-year-old, (mostly) house-broken Spaniel mix would be coming up from HARTT on a Love Train, and I encouraged my parents to “just meet her and see what happens”. Fast forward to now, where Casey (fka Midge or Midget) now constantly demands belly rubs from Dad, and

Fenella’s Home
Having recently lost my rabbit Jovi, I was unsure if I wanted to get another pet. I looked on the HSHV website and I saw Queenie, now Fenella. I thought that she was so cute and exactly what I was looking for. I still didn’t think I was ready, so I didn’t look any further. The next week I looked at the website again and saw that Queenie was still available, so I went in to visit. I loved her, but was going out of town soon after for a few weeks, so I didn’t think I could adopt her.

One weirdly-named cat
He recently came home with me (9.18.2020), but Longitude has absolutely been the best buddy I’ve needed in my life. He’s such a good fit for me and absolutely thriving! He sleeps on my bed while I attend online classes (or will sleep in my lap while I’m working) and he’s a night owl just like me. I come home from my late-night, in-person work and he’s up and ready to play. It always lifts my spirits to see him chasing his wool mice (his favorite type of toy) around the room even when I’m exhausted. I went to the

Meadow, practically perfect in every way
Our family adopted Meadow (formerly Snowflake, thought to be female) from HSHV back in February. We had recently lost our dear sweet cat of 15 years, and really needed some joy in our home. After much research, we decided to shop for supplies and adopt a bunny. We found Meadow at the shelter and adopted him that day! He has been such a bright ray of sunshine in our home, especially during the beginning of the pandemic. He loves to lay in the bathroom while the kids are brushing their teeth and will often jump on the toilet lid just

The key to my heart
A black cat has always been the key to my heart, and I found my key! I knew he was “the one” when I first laid eyes on him. I can’t get enough of him. He LOVES to talk when he wants attention (which is 24/7 lol!). He always has to be in the same room as me and always be around me. He is such a handsome boy and I’m glad I can say he’s mine! Thank you HSHV for providing me with my dream guy! Tammer now Armand

The Force Comes To Our Galaxy
Almost 4 years ago, Jedi kitties: Gingerbread Man (now Finn) and Clove (now Rey) came to our galaxy from HSHV. We all had heavy hearts with the passing of our Chewbacca-colored (Tortoiseshell) Cally of 18 1/2 years. We were just going to HSHV to “look” when Finn pulled us in with his Jedi skills. These bonded Jedi kitties have brought joy, warm snuggles and use their Jedi mind tricks daily to get dinner and treats early! We want to thank the entire HSHV staff for helping us adopt these two and bringing Finn and Rey to our galaxy! Gingerbread Man

Perfect Match!
Jazz was abandoned and then isolated due to some possible health concerns. She must not have received as much love due to the possibility of being contagious. My husband and I were looking for a loving pet to bring into our home. We both saw her in her kennel kneading her paws, and instantly fell in love! She had some issues at first, but she is the most playful, loving kitty you will ever meet once she develops trust!!! Sherbert now Jazz

Nala’s big comeback
My girlfriend and I had been living together for a while and decided maybe we should go look at dogs. Originally, we both wanted a puppy but decided that would be a lot with our busy lives. We went a few times and didn’t see any dogs who were somewhat calm. The last time we went, we saw Nala (Patty at the time). She was very hesitant and shy, and it looked like she’d had babies recently. My girlfriend and I talked about it for a bit, and took her for a walk around their facility. Nala started off being

The perfect addition to our family
It’s only been a week and I already can’t imagine our lives without her! When we met Toast (formerly known as Caddie) at the shelter she crawled right into my lap and wanted endless head scratches and chin rubs. During her first few days at home she remained that extremely cuddly cat, but now her goofy personality is blooming: a ton of zoomies, lots of meowing and chirping, and so many cuddles. She’s completely adjusted to her new home with our two toddlers and we couldn’t be happier. Caddie now Toast
