I adopted Reggie in 2018 and have loved her ever since. It took a while to get used to her as she likes to prawl the house and talk loudly around 3am every night, but we have gotten used to each other, and I wouldn’t trade her for the world. Reggie now Lil Girl

Friends Fur-ever!
We adopted our now 1.5-year-old cat, Allie, one year ago. She is the perfect fit, but we wanted her to have a buddy for when we are at work during the day. We adopted Madden over the summer, and although it took some time, they are now best buds! Madden is so playful and definitely our energetic, curious kitty. He and Allie enjoy tackling each other, chasing each other, and cuddling! My biggest fear in adopting Madden was that Allie would resent us and they wouldn’t get along. Your staff was wonderful with easing my worries and giving us pointers

Bonded brothers go home together
I went into the humane society honestly just trying to cheer myself up and came home with two rays of sunshine. When I went into the kitten room, there were more kittens than usual and instantly spotted a cage full of orange kitties. Yogi came right up to me and started purring almost louder than all the kittens it seemed. I went a filled out the form to get a pass and got to meet him. He lay on my chest, and I instantly fell In love. When I took his paper, Nacho came running and I knew I needed

Quincy Cat
I’m finishing up graduate school, so my husband and I decided to get a study buddy for me during my last semester. We fell in love with Quincy when we were at HSHV. He came right up to us and wasn’t afraid to play. My husband is allergic to cats and Quincy didn’t affect him at all, so we took it as a sign he was the one for us. We took him home the next day, and he instantly wanted to be our best friend. That night I was working on a paper and Quincy jumped right into my

Luna — Love you to the moon and back
I found Luna when I needed her most. My heart was broken after having to say goodbye best friend Cooper who actually was adopted HSHV almost 16 years ago. Luna was shy, yet attentive and calm despite the chaos of the shelter. Since her adoption day 9/29/19, we have learned she never runs out of kisses and has never-ending energy. She loves other dogs and kids and thinks everyone is here to play with her. She LOVES playing ball just as much as my Cooper did. She has filled my heart with joy again. I never thought I’d love another

Remus stole our hearts
When I first saw Remus, he was in the cage looking as adorable as can be but not as rambunctious as all the other kittens. I fell in love with his sweet face. It didn’t take long for him to get used to his new place, and now he runs the house and bullies the 10-year-old cat! But we all love him and can’t get enough of his playful personality. There is never a dull day with him around. Melvin Muscles now Remus

You can never ‘just look’ at HSHV
Four weeks ago, my boyfriend and I came to HSHV “just to look” at the dogs they had. As soon as we came up to his cage and saw Sam (then Lassen) for the first time, we fell in love. He came right up to us and rested his head in our hands. We took him for a walk and played with him for awhile before leaving, and then all night could not stop thinking about him! I was so sure he was going to get adopted by someone else before we were ready to take him later that week.

Oreo’s crazy Ideas
About four years ago, my family and I went to HSHV. When we went past the cat communal rooms, I saw a cat who made me stop walking and look into the window. The cat was bone-thin, all his ribs showing. According to his kennel card, he had just arrived at the shelter. He looked scared. My parents agreed to let me go in the room with him to see if he would be our new cat. It felt like forever when the HSHV staff opened the door. I walked over to the window seat. The cat came over, curious.
