Adopt, don’t shop!

We adopted Sicario in March 2017 from the Love Train. Adopting Sicario was the best decision we’ve ever made! We got so lucky with her; she greets everyone with her nonstop wiggle butt and grumpy face (underbites unite). ? Charlotte now Sicario

Seamus comes home

I Saw Seamus at HSHV 6 years ago now. He was — and still is — a very cuddly kitty. He is, however, slightly larger than he was when adopted. He was 9 lbs when I adopted him. He currently is about 20 lbs. He is such a love bug, and I couldn’t be happier.   Seamus McFuzzy

A Sweet Ragamuffin Finds a Home

In March 2018, we had to say goodbye to our elderly calico after a happy 17.5 years full of naps and food and tummy rubs. Originally, we thought it would take some time before we were ready to open our hearts to another creature. But after a week of the house feeling sad and empty, we made our way to Tiny Lions lounge and adoption Center (HSHV’s cat cafe). On our second visit there, we spied a minuscule, wide-eyed, giant-tailed, fearless 7-month-old dust-mop hiding behind a door. With a bit of coaxing, she came and licked our hands and graciously

Frank’s Forever Home

I fell in love with this sweet face on The Humane Society of Huron Valley’s Facebook page. The next day, I got there as soon as I could to see if I could find him, and I did! He was shy at first, but lay down on my lap. I knew I had to take him home that day! This puppy’s love has filled my life with joy! I couldn’t be more grateful for The Humane Society of Huron Valley and their Love Train program! Today is Frankie’s birthday, and we’re celebrating in style!   Frankenstein now Frank

Who’s our community’s Most Humane Youth? HSHV launches first ever local award

“Young people inspire us daily,” says Karen Patterson, director of humane education and volunteering at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV). “They donate their birthday gifts to animals, take time to read to and calm animals in shelters, and ultimately teach all of us adults to be more compassionate people. The Humane Youth Award is a way to celebrate that.” Celebrating youth who are making a positive impact on the lives of animals in Washtenaw County, Plymouth and Northville, HSHV is launching their first ever local award. “There are few things more beautiful than the bond between young people

Brownie’s new home

When my family of four lost our old man Basset Hound when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, it took us time to be ready for our new furry family member. When it was time, I headed to HSHV intending to adopt a young adult dog. Brownie sure changed my mind. He was polite and calm for a little puppy, and I thought, “Why not play with him a little?” Well, that was it. Stole my heart. He has been wonderful — from potty training to sleeping through the night and basic training. He is smart and willing to learn. I

Making Memories with Milly

3 years ago my daughter attended her friend’s birthday party at HSHV, and we wound up coming home with Milly! She’s an adorable Black Lab mix that came on the Love Train. She loves belly rubs, Milk Bones, and long walks with our family! We are so glad we found her! We can’t imagine life without our precious pooch, Milly!
