See kittens? Here’s what to do!

It’s kitten season! From spring to fall, cats are much more likely to give birth, so you may see kittens outside. Ask yourself: How old are the kittens (see the graphic here for help guessing their age!) Are they in a sheltered area? Do they look healthy?  Is the mom around? If the kittens are less than 5 weeks old, it’s usually in their best interest to leave them with mom! The survival rate is much lower for kittens separated from mom before they are old enough to feed themselves. Mom also helps them stay clean and go potty. Leave them

Trust opened a new world

When we first met, Aleu was very shy and uncertain of us. It seemed she might be a challenge. However, we have earned her trust and she has even begun to understand that not all humans are to be feared. She has learned to go for walks/hikes and play in her yard, especially during her favorite season, winter! She is our loving, cuddly, quiet, playful joy. We have been blessed for taking a chance with her. I think she might feel similarly about us! Aleu (LuLu)

We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity! Thank you so much, Troop #60030!

Learning about life, together

Teddy and I have both lived in Tennessee — he was a Love Train puppy. He was born on May 6, 2019, my first day on the job that brought me back to Ann Arbor. I didn’t know either of those things when I singled out Teddy among a roomful of puppies. I saw his expressive eyes and the small bald spot on his back — maybe he got into a puppy brawl, because the fur grew back later — and decided that he was it. Best decision I ever made. Is it fate when everything aligns, or are we

The Dramatic Impact of Community Targeting in TNR

Written by Bryan Kortis, the National Program Director at Neighborhood Cats in New York City I learned about targeting by accident. The first colony I ever TNR’ed was near where I lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.  The 30 or so cats lived in the inner courtyards of a nearby block and could be seen running around in an empty grass lot, a rare bit of open space in that densely populated, high rise neighborhood.  I had never heard of TNR when I first started working with the colony, but after dealing with six teenage feral kittens as
