Happy Together

When our 19 year old kitty died last year we knew it would be some time before we could welcome a new little buddy into our lives. When we were ready we visited Tiny Lions and fell in love with two little buddies. Even though they weren’t sure about each other at first, now they are inseparable and make our family complete. Emari’s Exceptional Birthday

Emari is such a kind kid! She came to HSHV to celebrate her birthday and brought a gift for the animals. Emari donated dog and cat food to our animal residents because it seemed like the right thing to do. Thank you so much for thinking of the animals on your birthday, Emari! We appreciate your kindness, and we know the animals do too!

Best Friends Furrever

I adopted Phoenix from Tiny Lions Cat Cafe in 2019. I’ve wanted a cat since as long as I can remember, and funnily enough, I always dreamed of naming my cat Phoenix after my favorite actor River Phoenix. When I saw Phoenix on the website, already named Phoenix, I knew we were meant to be. When I went to Tiny Lions I was visiting with a few different cats, and Phoenix was very stubborn and wouldn’t come near me. Then as we were about to leave, we were telling the receptionist the choices we were down to. As we were

Over years and miles

I went to HSHV looking for a companion for my first cat. One of the communal rooms had a group who’d been seized from a hoarding situation, and a black kitten ran right up to me. I had come in with my mind set on a black cat, since they get overlooked so often, but I also wanted an adult—and it turned out that, although she was small and scrawny, she was in fact six years old. I took her home that day. We gained and lost roommates, human and animal; we moved to Indiana, and then North Carolina, and

I tricked them

Hi, my name is Montie and I’m now 4 years old. I was only 10 months old when my potential adopters who are now my mom and dad visited me at HSHV. We went for a walk and I was SUCH a good boy and showed them how perfect I could be on walks. I even sat at the kennel door just leaning on the cage and acted so calm waiting for them. When we went for a walk, I just sat down in front of them and starred up at them. That sold them quickly. I was so glad

Boogie the Lookout

After thinking about getting a cat for a while, I decided to visit HSHV just to look. I just wanted to meet a few cats and get an idea of what I was looking for in a cat. I met Boogie (formerly Puddles) right away, and he stole my heart. Even in the shelter, he was sweet and playful and we spent 20 minutes playing and snuggling on our first meeting. He has FLUTD, and I was concerned about having a cat with health issues as the first cat I have ever owned. But I could not stop thinking about

Best of Friends

We adopted Athena in November 2015. She was wonderful with people and kids but had some reactivity to other dogs. With the support of HSHV’s Reactive Rover training class, we were able to learn skills to give Athena the support and structure she needed. In February 2020 while volunteering as a dog walker, I fell in love with Arlo. I wasn’t sure if Athena would accept Arlo. With the support of HSHV’s behavior staff, we were able to do a dog interaction with Athena and Arlo to evaluate the fit before bringing Arlo home. Athena and Arlo mostly ignored each
