Singer now Shekhu We adopted Singer (now Shekhu) on June 1st 2018; my parents were sure we were NEVER getting a cat. But one morning, my mom woke up and thought, it wouldn’t be that bad of an idea… When she arrived at HSHV, she knew exactly which kitty she had been looking for — the first one she held in her hands. There were loads of other people in there for kitten season, and all of the cats were quietly sleeping in visitors’ arms. But singer? He was the most rambunctious thing! He attempted to run out of her

Sweet and Quiet Girl
My boyfriend had adopted a sweet girl named Willa early December, she was very nervous and shy and wouldn’t come near anyone. Now she’s opened up so much, and my goodness is she just the most lovable and playful puppy ever! Although she suffers from heartworm, she’s not giving it any thought whatsoever. This girl went from not wanting to be around anyone to constantly following me and my boyfriend around the house all the time, we love Willa so much and I’m so happy that we found her!

Eleven Years and Counting
Eleven years ago this little man, Uffda, came home with me as a young adult. He’d been living at the shelter for 3 months – long enough for HSHV to offer a very deep discount on the adoption fee. Why he was surrendered and how come no one adopted him before I met him, I may never know – but I’m the lucky one now! Very lucky, that is. He’s caring and affectionate when he’s not hamming it up somewhere. He was (and still is) “my rock” when things went crazy for me in the couple of years before he

Tito’s forever home
When my daughter and I walked into the shelter looking to adopt a young dog, we met Albatross. He was the saddest-looking pup in the building that day. I immediately wanted to put a smile on his face. We decided to take him home and give him the best life we could. This is Tito (we changed his name). He came into our life and changed it for the best. He enjoys long walks, cuddling with his humans, and playing with all his toys.

Daisy has us wrapped around all 4 of her paws
We had been looking to adopt a dog who would thrive in our small townhome. The minute I saw Daisy on the HSHV website I knew she was the girl for us. They said she was a nervous/scared dog who needed a quiet home with no small children. Well we have a child now, she just has 4 legs! The first day was rocky, she was a bundle of nerves and shook the whole ride home. The first night she vomited 5 times, it seems she has a nervous tummy and vomits when she is anxious. But her sweet demeanor

Girl Scouts Give Back
The girls in troop #40180 are so kind! They decided they wanted to help our animal residents. The troop organized a towel drive at their elementary school, then they donated the towels they collected to HSHV. Thank you so much, Troop #40180! We appreciate your kindness, and we know the animals do too!

Second try is the charm!
Frost had been a Love Train puppy but was adopted by a single mom and her 2 little girls, and they lived in an apartment. As puppies do, he nipped and jumped and was generally rambunctious. So they returned him to HSHV. We found him after visiting HSHV on a Love Train Friday and not finding the right dog from the puppy selection. He was a 6 month old WACKO HYPER dog when we visited him in a room out back, but we realized that it was because he was just so happy to have someone visiting him. We took

The Best Dog Ever!
On December 11th 2021, we decided to adopt Brady! He is a beautiful Siberian Husky. We changed his name to Bandit and he’s settled in perfectly with us. We couldn’t have gotten a better dog. He doesn’t get into anything, he hasn’t had any accidents in the house, he doesn’t chew on anything. He’s funny, and loves to play. He loves to snuggle and be loved on. Thank you Huron Valley Humane Society for letting us adopt Bandit (Brady) Brady now Bandit

Kitties living their best life on the farm
These two were meant to be. All my life I’ve dreamed of having an orange female cat. My family decided we wanted to add two barn kittens to our homestead. When my husband called, much to his surprise, they had two kittens, not yet listed on the site, and one was an orange female. He texted me right away with the news and my heart was beaming. We made arrangements to pick them up that evening. These two just love each other. You can find them daily together playing and hunting around the barn. They fit in perfectly with our
