HB 4674 introduced last week by State Representative Jimmy Wilson, Jr. of Ypsilanti would make Michigan the third state to make declawing cats illegal. The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) hopes it will pass…well, right meow.

Two shy girls found their furever home
I recently went through big changes in life and found myself living alone and feeling very lonely. I went to the Humane Society to look for a bonded pair, and I found these two girls. They are wonderful. They were very shy at first, every sound and movement scared them. They used to growl any time the neighbors opened their doors. But now, a month later, they are so happy and comfortable. They make cuddle piles all over the place, and they have favorite spots and blankets now. If I don’t cuddle them for at least half an hour every

A Birthday for the Animals
Rachel is such a kind kid! Her family adopted a dog (Duke) from Love Train, which inspired her to help the other animals at HSHV. For her birthday this year, Rachel asked her friends and family to donate to HSHV. She collected blankets, towels, dog food/treats, toys, gift cards, and monetary donations. Thank you for thinking of the animals on your birthday, Rachel. We greatly appreciate your donation!

Blueberry’s Happily Ever After
In May of 2022 I was fortunate enough to adopt the perfect bunny who needed a home, Blueberry Chalet. When I walked into HSHV I was told she just got returned from foster care and hadn’t been adopted in 2 years. I knew she was exactly what I needed. The day I brought Blueberry home I let her out to explore the living room. Instead of hopping around she immediately hopped onto my lap and sat with me for an hour. I knew then she needed me just as much as I needed her. Blueberry was definitely hesitant for a

Holly & Ivy
In November 2022, I adopted Ivy (JJ) – a 13yo Australian Cattle Dog mix. Having lost my 14yo beagle a month prior, I had been visiting HSHV in hopes of meeting a dog in their golden years. I was delighted to meet Ivy! Since bringing Ivy home just a few short months ago, she has brought immense joy and companionship. From the very first day, it was clear that Ivy’s senior status did not dampen her spirit or her capacity to love. She adjusted seamlessly to her new home and showcased a strong ability to learn a new environment. When

To Pet Owners in Michigan: Beware of Traps
Following the passage of a proposal last week by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) which now allows squirrels, cottontail rabbits, opossums and other animals deemed “nuisances” to be trapped and killed without a permit, the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is cautioning people about dangerous—even deadly—traps their pets could mistakenly encounter.
