Our Loving Mini

We had always talked of coming into “look” and consider getting our dog a sibling but never knew that our hearts ♥️ would forever be stolen by our sweet “mini” girl. As soon as we stopped at her kennel we knew she was the one, from her wagging tail to her sweet sloppy kisses. She couldn’t be a better girl for our family ♥️ Thank you Mini for choosing us 🙂 Mineru now Mini

The Purfect Pair

My daughters had been wanting a cat for a long time. I finally felt they were mature enough to care for one and we immediately started our search for our furever friend. It felt like the longest few months of our lives. Every time we thought we found “the purfect one”, they would be adopted out to families before us and our hearts would be crushed. We were getting extremely discouraged, but never stopped searching. One day, I saw Minnie on the HSHV website and as soon as I got off work we went straight to see her. She was

Muzzles aren’t just for bad dogs…

Muzzles aren’t just for “dangerous dogs.” Any dog could potentially bite if they are injured, in pain, not feeling well, or scared. All dog owners should consider having a well-fitting, comfortable muzzle on hand, and should proactively train their dog to be happy and comfortable wearing it. Hopefully, the muzzle will never be needed, but if something does happen, everyone will be glad that this safety tool can be easily put on, without causing additional stress to the dog. Muzzles also have other uses, such as

Love at First Sight

When my dog Tank was about 1 1/2 we lost our older dog Remy. Tank grieved a lot longer and worse than we ever could have imagined. Tank stopped eating, his allergies couldn’t be controlled and he was just so sick all the time, so I thought I’ll go to HSHV and see if they have any dogs who would be a good match. I was worried because Tank got along with my 2 daughters’ dogs but not enough, so I was worried Tank would get worse due to jealousy. I looked at a couple of the dogs, but when

The Best Dog Around!

I adopted Molly on September 2nd 2021, and it was easily one of the best days of my life. Molly had only been at HSHV for six days when my mom and I showed up to look for an ESA (emotional support animal) to help me with my depression and anxiety. Molly was laying down in the last kennel in the hallway, looking up at us with her beady little eyes. She pawed at me through the kennel door and I knew she was the one. I was able to take her back to the dorms with me and she

Kitties get their forever home

Almost 2 years ago, my husband and I decided we wanted to bring a kitten into our home; we already had two loving dogs. We went to HSHV and did not make it much past the front desk before we met a kitten I knew would get her forever home that day. So starts the story of Persephone, Eris, and Pugsley. Persephone was an abandoned kitten who was left in a box with her mom when some kind soul found them and brought them to the shelter. Eris and Pugsley were fortunate not to have had a traumatic experience prior
