I adopted a two year-old cat from HSHV named Florence in 2018. She was the last cat I saw and she had the sweetest face and the prettiest subtle markings. She’s since been renamed Detective Elliott Stabler after the ‘Law and Order: SVU’ character, but we mostly call her Stabey. She knows her name and she’s incredibly docile and sweet. Every day when I come home, I’m greeted with loud meows and headbutts as soon as the door is open. She puts up with medication, she loves being brushed, and she’s food-motivated yet still incredibly polite. She purrs like a

30 Birds Abandoned at Door of Humane Society of Huron Valley
Ann Arbor, MI (August 22, 2024) – Early Monday morning, staff at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) were surprised to find 30 birds—26 parakeets and 4 cockatiels—abandoned outside the shelter’s front doors. The parakeets were all piled into a cardboard cat carrier, and the cockatiels were left in a cage—all a bench outside the Adoptions entrance. They were discovered by HSHV Clinic staff as they arrived for work August 19. This incident is unfortunately reminiscent of a similar occurrence in April 2023, when 19 birds and one cat were left at the shelter’s entrance. Just as in that

Love At First Sight
My husband and I lost our first dog together two years ago. It took us until last December to start visiting HSHV. We saw a photo of Daphne and immediately went to the shelter. We learned she was in Foster Care because the shelter environment was too stressful for her. We visited her at the foster home and two days later brought her home. Daphne has been with us for close to seven months now and our lives are so much more enriched with having the pleasures and the struggles (she is STRONG so walks can be tough) of being

Gabi Is Very Happy
My name is Gabi. I was formally known as Dahlia at HSHV and I moved to my forever home on 7/8/24. I just wanted all of my 2-legged and 4-legged friends at HSHV to know that I’m doing great and thank you for the great care you provided while I was a resident at your fine establishment. When I arrived at my new home, I checked in and learned the 3 most important things of life…where to eat, where to go to the bathroom and where to sleep. It was all downhill after that. My new family and I quickly

It was love at first sight. Sebastian found his forever home!
I adopted Sebastian (previously Adam) in February. He’s an adorable rascal. He likes to play hide-n-seek by hiding behind the drapes! Seriously! If anyone wants to adopt, HSHV is the place. HSHV was wonderful helping me find the right kitty. Thank you to all your wonderful staff! Here’s his recent picture. (He also has a thing about sticking his tongue out.) Adam now Sebastian

Humane Society of Huron Valley so full, they’re using dog yard to house a pig
Ann Arbor, MI (August 12, 2024)— The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is currently housing an unusual guest in an even more unusual location. Due to an overwhelming number of animals at HSHV, including a few farm animals, the organization has temporarily converted one of its dog play yards into a cozy home for a friendly potbellied pig. The pig was discovered in a field at Meadowlark Equestrian Center. HSHV is currently searching for the owner. If no one steps forward in the next few days, the pig, whom HSHV has given the affectionate name “Cucumber,” will be put

Oh my clementine
The day I found out about clementine I just knew I had to meet her. That night I sent the wonderful foster family a text asking if we could meet her. I received a response right away and was able to arrange something for later that week. When I met this spunky, feisty girl she was the sweetest little angel who was not shy and came out and said hello. I got some kisses and she even took a little nap on me. I knew right then that I wanted her to live with me forever! At the time she
