New Love Train best buddy for older Love Train baby

This past December my husband and I decided that we had too much stability and order in our lives with our last sweetie Lainey (previously Jade). Our lives were quiet, but we could tell that even with all her walks and play with mom and dad and dog park that our Lainey girl was missing something from her life. Since we had gotten Lainey from HSHV, we thought we would try there again. After a failed attempt (the first puppy was not a good fit with Lainey at an intro) we eventually found Cole, previously Simon, and he and Lainey

Warming up to their new life

Obi (Oatmeal) & Isaac (Steve) came home with Dave and I last July. They were very timid and hid together behind our toilet, except to play and wrestle with each other. It was a slow start, but with a lot of love the boys have warmed up to us. So far, Isaac is the affectionate, in-your-face, loving type and Obi is more the rough-and-tumble adventurous type. Together they bring us an enormous amount of entertainment and joy. We have absolutely loved watching them come out of their shells, and can’t wait to see how they mature into adult cats. Thank

Welcome Home

My niece (Taylor) called and said that we needed to go get Chimichanga. So that is what we did. She is a great addition to the Stanford family. Chimichanga now Reba

The purrfect match

Star, now Nebula, is the perfect addition to our family. My youngest daughter adores cats & has been wanting one for the past year. When she first met Nebula (Star) she said, “this is the one Mom.” Nebula is so sweet and loves to cuddle. She is not afraid of her very large fur-brother, an 11-month-old yellow lab named Lupin. And though she gets herself into a bit of mischief sometimes, she is very playful and fun. 🙂 When she gets really excited we call her “nutsy Neb.” She has brought a lot of joy to our family in just

Kylo’s Adventure

When we walked in we saw Kylo reaching through the crate. We learned that he had been returned the day before and we knew we wanted to adopt him! Since we got him, Kylo was less than 2 pounds and really small. Now at 8 months old, he’s now bigger than our full-grown cat! He loves the outside, and water strangely enough. He loves running in the snow and bothering his sister! Oh and car rides as well, loves those. He’s our adventure cat! Colin-Bridgerton now Kylo

Hannah’s (now Jovie’s) Chihuahua Sisterhood!

We have been coming to HSHV regularly over the last few months, just keeping our eyes open for the perfect bigger pup who might get along with our two 5 lb chihuahuas. We knew this might be tricky, but the staff were ready and willing to help us find our match! After a few unsuccessful tries, we came across sweet Hannah and quickly fell in love! She has only playful energy towards our little girls, and the staff were so incredibly helpful in deciding if her behavior was conducive to having a happy home. Since bringing her home we’ve worked

Smoky Loves to Fish!

Almost 6 years ago I heard news of the Love Train. We had lost our lab Sunny in late 2016. I started visiting HSHV in early 2017 looking for a love pup to bring home. After many dog walks and second and third visits, we found Smoky – formerly known as McSteamy. We think he was around 2 years old at the time of adoption. We had to take it slow, I had to scoop him up in the parking lot at HSHV and put him in the truck. I don’t think any amount of coaxing would have gotten him

We love kirby more than words!!!

My boyfriend and I moved to Michigan 2 years ago and had wanted to adopt for a long time. My family’s dog that I grew up with, Rocky, crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020, and my boyfriend’s dog, Lily, followed in 2021. This fall, we decided we were ready for a new forever friend. We started to visit HSHV for a while, waiting to meet the perfect fit for us, and when we met Kirby (previously Frankie) it was like love at first sight. We actually waited one day between seeing him for the first time and officially adopting him,

Sassy lovable Star Wars furbaby

I saw Chewee on the website while out of town. As soon as I got home I called HSHV to make sure he was available. The next day he was going to be there for a meet and greet from 1-4, so I showed up 30 min early. When he got there it was love at first sight for me. I went up to him and he immediately came to me and smothered me with kisses. I knew right then and there he was going home with me ♥️♥️♥️♥️ He’s so sweet, loving, gentle, sassy and well-behaved. He loves his

Mazey has been an absolute gem!

I came to your shelter 8 years ago looking for a pup. There were some puppies who were found along I-75, and I sat on the floor and this one in particular made a home on my lap. At that moment I knew there was no possible way I was leaving the shelter without her. She has been by my side ever since. She has been to nursing homes with me, has such a mild-mannered personality, and is the sweetest dog I’ve ever had. Thank you for treating these animals so well. Coral now Mazey
