My husband and I adopted Daisy a little over a year ago and it was our best decision yet! She started out as a skinny, shy, anxious dog but quickly came out of her shell. Her personality blossomed! I’ve never known a more loving, expressive dog than our Daisy. She’s a mommy’s girl and her favorite things in the world are chicken nuggets and zoomies in the backyard. Mocha now Daisy

Olive and Pearl have love in their sights!
Olive and Pearl, formerly Angel and Dove, caught our attention when we decided we wanted to expand our family. We already had two wonderful HSHV cats, Jinxie (formerly Candy Apple) and Hazel (formerly Yoko). We figured the cats would coexist with each other, since neither of us was familiar with bonded cats. To our surprise, Hazel, Olive, and Pearl are all best of friends! And Jinxie tolerates everyone 🙂 Despite their (lack of) eye, Olive and Pearl play and jump and act just like any other kitten would. They’ve become a wonderful addition to our family! This picture features Olive

Homer’s furever home
We adopted 15 year old Homer on October 20, 2021. As soon as I saw him online I knew that he needed us, as much as I needed him. It has only been a short time but Homer is settling in his forever home well. Homer came to us skinny, scared and unsure of his surroundings. Despite having some health issues and being deaf, he loves going on short walks, greeting his humans, going on car rides and loves cuddling and taking naps. After a rough 15 years Homer is now happy and very loved.

Feral barn cats turned love bugs
We adopted Trout and Viv through HSHV’s feral barn cat program, and when we first met them they were just that – feral. Both cats were terrified of humans and didn’t know what love looked like. The first few months we barely saw them – glimpses here and there before they would run away from us – but always evidence they were around and were eating their bellies full. With lots of patience and persistence, Trout and Viv are now two of the most friendly, cuddly and social barn cats I have ever met. They come running when they hear

Snapdragon – 16 with health problems – Thrives like a kitten
I had just lost my sweet Sid who I ‘d had for 16 years. I was regularly looking at the HSHV website, just to think about cats. I had no intention of adopting. I saw Snapdragon and she captured my heart. When I went to meet her she crawled right into my lap and solicited pets from me. I decided to get her. The adoption expert clearly thought I was going to change my mind when I heard about Snapdragon’s health issues but it just bolstered my opinion that she needed me. At her first vet appointment, the doctor said

Best Friends Furrever
I adopted Phoenix from Tiny Lions Cat Cafe in 2019. I’ve wanted a cat since as long as I can remember, and funnily enough, I always dreamed of naming my cat Phoenix after my favorite actor River Phoenix. When I saw Phoenix on the website, already named Phoenix, I knew we were meant to be. When I went to Tiny Lions I was visiting with a few different cats, and Phoenix was very stubborn and wouldn’t come near me. Then as we were about to leave, we were telling the receptionist the choices we were down to. As we were

Over years and miles
I went to HSHV looking for a companion for my first cat. One of the communal rooms had a group who’d been seized from a hoarding situation, and a black kitten ran right up to me. I had come in with my mind set on a black cat, since they get overlooked so often, but I also wanted an adult—and it turned out that, although she was small and scrawny, she was in fact six years old. I took her home that day. We gained and lost roommates, human and animal; we moved to Indiana, and then North Carolina, and
