9 months with Benny

We fell in love with Benny before we even met him. He is a gentle giant and love his toys, baths, and walks! He is no 23 pound puppy anymore and is weighing in at 105 pounds to date! We love him and he is our best friend.

Funniest Boy

We wanted to say thank you to whoever fostered our “Little Otes” as we affectionally call Otis (formerly Jack Bean). It was obvious from the get-go that he was great with people and other animals. He wormed his way into both of our older cats’ hearts and absolutely LOVES our collie (she loves him too but feels very outnumbered by her 3 cat brothers). Our college daughter brings her female cat home at breaks and he broke through that ‘queen’ mentality she has and she loves him too! He is just the funniest, most lovable boy. He is always There,

Chaos Finds Love

I saw Yeti’s picture, and immediately thought he’d be perfect for our home. Little did I know he would be a menace the first few weeks, destroying everything and causing a mess! I almost reconsidered adopting him. However, weeks later he showed amazing improvement with love and training. Sometimes you have to give them time and compassion, which went a long way with Yeti. He now has a loving home, socializes with other dogs daily, plenty of exercise and jobs to do. We love him dearly and wouldn’t think twice about adopting him.

Spock: love at first sight!

After losing my two senior male cats due to common old-age-kitty health issues a couple years prior, I knew it was time to let a new kitty into my life. My boyfriend and I went to HSHV to have a look at some kittens. My eye went straight to a cage of 4 little black ones, and then straight to one little male in particular. The volunteer had just given everyone some canned food, so when she asked if I wanted to see any of them, we said we would wait until he was done eating. He proceeded to stuff

The sweetest addition!

I recently moved into my first apartment, and was in need of a friend for my 9-year-old cat, Winston. I went into HSHV not expecting to find anything, but then I met my sweet Aly girl! Aly and Winston were destined to be siblings. Aly was just a baby when I adopted her, so there is quite the age gap between them, but he loves her so much!

From high energy to lovable best friend

We were almost convinced into NOT adopting him because he was high energy and put on meds for anxiety, but Kane is fun loving, playful, smart and loves his new family 💖 Loves to play ball and keeps us fit and entertained. From camping to car rides to walks at the park, he has adjusted WITHOUT drugs…just love time and patience. Samuel now Kane

One Year with Vaughn!

Tomorrow is our one year anniversary of adopting Vaughn, a shy pit bull mix who immediately stole our hearts. He’s still very shy, but he has come such a long way since we first adopted him. He LOVES his family and his personality really shines around us. He has a greyhound sister who he loves cuddling with on the couch and running with outside! He loves getting scratches, pawing at us for more. He loves to cuddle with me on the couch, sometimes climbing on top of me for maximum coziness. I work at a dog daycare, and he goes

Sid is making himself at home!

When I first visited Sid he was very anxious and would not let me touch him for several days. Once I brought him home, he was a totally different dog. Sid spends his days cuddling with me and playing with his toys (when he’s not napping). Thank you so much for taking care of him. He really is a good boy.

Lucy gets her groove back

Lucy is a typical sassy and smart husky! Understandably, she was a bit timid at first as her and her brothers came to HSHV after their owner was in a tragic accident. At first it was difficult to differentiate what was fear versus stubbornness, having to initially carry her down/up stairs (now she FLIES down them). She spends her days on long walks, playing with other dogs, annoying her cat siblings, taking long naps, solving puzzles for treats, and defiantly staying outside when it’s time to come in. She has yet to figure out how to escape the yard, but

A Year with Lucy

My husband and I adopted Lucy (formerly Suzie) one year ago today! Last year, our house seemed so empty and quiet after our sweet golden retriever died the year before, we became empty nesters, and my husband retired. Not having a lot of experience with dogs, we were looking to adopt a retriever-type dog, and one finally popped up on the website. When we met Suzie that weekend, we fell in love and brought her home the same day. We renamed her Lucy and got down to business getting to know this dog. She is super smart and well behaved,
