Betty and I met at the Humane Society of Huron Valley 8 years ago. I was recently retired and Betty was recently abandoned. She has been a great addition to my life and hopefully vice versa. She has received excellent veterinary care at the HSHV Clinic, and fortunately – for her as well as me – she has been in good health her entire life. I hope we are together for many years to come. Rescue dogs heal broken hearts
As a dog walker, I knew Harriet. I had walked her, spent time with her. The sweet Pittie mix momma dog who was abandoned, along with her puppies, she had been tied to a pole . It’s ironic because in 2007 I rescued two pittie puppies who had been tied to a tree and abondoned. My sweet Izzy lived to be 9 and George lived to be 12. The second irony was when George passed (and shattered my heart). He had been ill for sometime, but his passing came unexpectedly on June 22 2019, the same day the adoption hold

The dog we didn’t know we needed!
3 years ago, our cat of 18 years passed away. After the extreme morning period, my daughters and I finally felt ready to donate her food to HSHV. It was a Wednesday morning. The girls wanted to look at the dogs before we left. After doing a lap, we were ready to leave when one of the volunteers informed us that the Love Train was coming on Friday. I chuckled and told my daughters that the last thing we needed was a puppy, as we had a 15 year old blind and deaf Yorkie at home. Friday comes, and we

Clover comes Home!
Clover came home with us about a week ago now. Our existing dog, Nadine, wasn’t certain about it, but now, they’re best playmates in the backyard! Clover loves to chase Nadine and play with anything squeaky. She tears apart toys like it’s her job. Clover also hangs her tongue out of the side of her face and sits sideways like a goof. And her lil butt wiggles are so funny! She’s a great addition to our crazy family, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Stormy now Clover

Smiles and Snuggles For Silvia
Hi. My name is Silvia. I was adopted a week ago on August 16th 2020. It’s only been a little over a week in my new Forever Home, but my life has changed in such wonderful ways I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming! I love living with my Dad and his mom, my Grandma, I’m taken care of and loved and cuddled all the time. Every morning my day starts out with a long walk with Dad and Grandma. During the day I help Grandma with the gardening (I’m great at supervising), play with Dad,

We completed our home with draco
My fiancé and I decided that we really wanted a dog shortly after moving in to our own place together. We were at lunch looking at our local shelters and could NOT pass up his face. He was stunning and he we had to meet him. We called, met him, and took him home immediately. The shelter was amazing and made the process perfect. Over two years later, we are still over the moon for him ♥️

It’s all in the name
We lost our Bassett Hound in 2003 after 13 years. Our son was grown and 11 years later we were thinking about adopting a kitten. We’d never had a cat before. We came across a kitten named Dapper Dan at HSHV. When our son was little (late 1980’s), they had a doll-like toy named Dapper Dan which taught the child how to dress. Came with laces for shoes, buttons, zippers etc…our son loved it! In fact, we still have it in his keepsakes. We hadn’t thought of Dapper Dan for years and now all of a sudden this cute little

Miss Izzy the Lovebug
I adopted Miss Izzy when she was 10 years old. Her previous owner had passed away, her son tried to take her but he had 2 big dogs that made her nervous. I am grateful he brought them to HSHV. She has FIV so she needed to be an indoor cat. But that’s okay, because I am pretty much home bound myself. It didn’t take her long to be comfortable in my apartment. She is so loving. We were meant for each other. She turned 14 this year. Miss Izzy or just Izzy

Ava becomes Lady Marmalade
My husband and I said goodbye to his sweet, 17 year-old cat Peaches and we felt a definite hole in our hearts. We go to the shelter often to visit the animals, and waited months for our perfect old lady. When we saw Ava’s (now Marmalade) picture on the site, we knew we had to have her. The next day, we went in and fell in love and brought her home that day. We were notified of Marmalade’s health issues, poor vision, no teeth, and lesser kidney functions. We took her to our vet and have been giving her subcutaneous

Senior to Senior
As a HSHV volunteer I would periodically visit the animals. That is when I met Donut. He had been at HSHV for a long time and was 12 years old with early stage kidney disease. My husband and I decided to adopt him (Sept 2019) and give him an enjoyable life for what ever time he had left. We are approaching our one year anniversary with Donut. He is so sweet and is always at our side waiting for us to sit down on our lap. This dear senior cat continues to provide lots of love to us seniors. ❤️
