We adopted Leif (now Cosmo) from HSHV as a kitten. He was the only one from his litter to not get adopted. Within 5 minutes of meeting he was in our laps and purring. We wanted a friend for our 1 year-old cat, Kip (black and white), who seemed lonely. The first week was rocky, but Cosmo and his sister Kip became fast friends. Now he is almost 4 months old. They groom each other, take turns playing with each other, drink from the sink together, and most importantly snuggle up and nap together. These two have become inseparable and

My precious gift
I had just lost my golden retriever and was heartbroken. My sister found her on HSHV site and took me out to meet her. I fell in love instantly. My sister insisted on paying for her as a gift. She is now known as Auntie Angel as she saved us both. She is the cutest, silliest baby ever, she entertains herself and makes all the neighbors laugh. She is my heart 💗 Missy now Dalanie

Ozzy the Adventurer!
Ozzy is a big, beautiful, silky boy of nearly five. We adopted him from HSHV going on two years ago. He was advertised as having a luxurious coat and “melodious” voice. Both true – he talks nearly non-stop and answers you with a variety of “hellos!” We didn’t have him long when we realized that he longed to go outside – it was heartrending watching him bat the window and whine “melodiously.” We didn’t want him to wander or kill anything, so first he was trained to walk on a leash in a defined area. Then we bought the Whistle,

Goofiest big-headed boy
I had just moved to Northern Michigan after living in the Brighton area and I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a picture of the cutest dog from HSHV. I decided when I was visiting family for Thanksgiving I would stop in and meet him. My first thought upon meeting him was that he had the biggest head of any dog that I had ever seen, and he was adorable and such a goof! I ended up taking him home a few days later. On the 3 hour drive home he was nervous and did not really settle down. Once

From Shy to Sassy
When we first adopted Opal, she was super shy and timid. Now she is very energetic and runs around all over the place. She and our other cat, Luna, chase each other around! We are so happy to have her in our family! Lady now Opal

Tifa the Diva
I am so grateful that Tifa and I crossed paths! I got her April 26th, but the road to finding my furbaby was rrowf! Due to the increase in the need to adopt during the stay home order, all the shelters were virtually empty. One morning I saw her cute little face on the website and figured why not apply! She is such a sweet girl and has blossomed into a confident little diva. She loves her glammed or den and growing collection of toys! Might I add she also enjoys her occasional home cooked chicken dinners (doggy safe) as

Shy Leeta has come out of her shell
When Leeta (the small brown tabby in the photo) came home with us, she was a shy little girl. She spent the first few weeks with us hiding under the furniture, coming out for food and such. But oh, boy, has she come out of her shell! She is now very outgoing and the Queen Bee. Snuggly and sometimes playful with us, she likes to defend herself from the evil tail that keeps attacking her from behind. She and our other cat Jenkins have been defining their relationship, but she is fitting in just fine. Leelu now Leeta

I found my soulmate!
I bought my own home Dec. 2018. It is the 1st time in my life I had ever lived alone (I’m 53 y.o.). I have had many pets over the years & had my mind set on a bully breed, even with the stereotypes and discrimination. I spent months looking through the internet, shelters and rescue groups and had not been able to find the dog I thought I wanted. My sister had visited HSHV many times over the years and recommended I do a pre-application for a Love Train puppy. I received emails and pictures weekly, which was incredible,

Sakura and Kinako Bring Joy and Mischief
Adopting during the height of a pandemic has been life changing. Every day we are grateful to have welcomed these two ladies into our lives. While they spent the first 48 hours at home hiding inside -not under- the couch, for the past two months we’ve woken up every morning to hungry meows, headbutts, purrs, and toys littering our bedroom floor. It took awhile to reflect on new names, ultimately settling on traditional varieties of Japanese mochi, with Sakura meaning cherry blossom and Kinako roasted soybean – a fitting name for a dilute calico. We inadvertently made a toy box

she found her father, mother, and brother
We have our 9 month old husky mix, Ozzi, from the 11/1/19 love train. Ozzi is very energetic and social, and we had been working hard to train him. I have always wanted two dogs, and adopting a puppy was on our to-do list. We heard that a Love Train was coming through, but when we hopped online to look at the puppies, we saw Mel. As soon as we saw her photo we knew she was coming home with us. We were told she had some behavioral problems, and we found out she had been returned to HSHV several
