Barn cat lives where he works

Juice is the chillest cat who just does his own thing. He was adopted once before and returned to the shelter for being “too much of an outside cat.” That’s actually perfect for us since he’s got a job to do keeping our barn free of mice! He doesn’t mind living on his own and seeks us out when he needs some extra attention. He’s so gentle with my daughter and they became fast friends. He’s the perfect cat for us! OJ now Juice

Alfredo found us!

I had seen Alfredo on the website and instantly loved him! I had been thinking about getting a dog and I was just scrolling through adoptable pets for months. When I saw his big goofy face with his lazy eye I immediately saved his pic! The only thing that was stopping me from running there right then was that he was a hour away 😭 …Fast forward about a month, I was looking back to the pictures of different shelter dogs and calling around to see if they were still looking for a home. Sure enough Mr. Alfredo was still

Anchovy swims home!

As a long time cat-lover, I couldn’t wait to adopt a kitten. When I came to HSHV, I immediately fell in love with Veronica (now Anchovy). She was immediately so affectionate, trying to rub on my hand through the holes of the cage. Without a second thought, we took her home that same day! Now she is just as affectionate (she loves to to walk on our faces, give us kisses, eat off our plates, and sleep on our necks), but her hyper side has emerged! She sprints around the house at all hours of the night and will play

Daisy’s fur ever home

On April 3rd,2022 my family and I went to HSHV to look for a puppy to adopt. We found our sweet Daisy when she was just a few months old. Daisy is now over 1 year old and is very healthy. Daisy loves to bird watch, she loves playing with her toys, pup cups, doggy massages, and even at night time Daisy has to have a warm blanket from the dryer. Daisy definitely has found her fur ever home. Charmkin now Daisy

Gracie (now Jarrito) finds a home!

When we saw Jarrito on the website, we knew we needed her. I have always wanted a calico, and this long-haired calico was beautiful. She loves going for walks (or at least, being carried outside), getting treats and being pet. Jarrito is our newest family member and we couldn’t be happier to have her. Jarrito loves to give kisses and even meows if you stop petting her. She’ll snuggle up next to you when you sleep and cuddle in your lap during the day. She truly is the cutest cat we’ve ever met. Our Loving Mini

We had always talked of coming into “look” and consider getting our dog a sibling but never knew that our hearts ♥️ would forever be stolen by our sweet “mini” girl. As soon as we stopped at her kennel we knew she was the one, from her wagging tail to her sweet sloppy kisses. She couldn’t be a better girl for our family ♥️ Thank you Mini for choosing us 🙂 Mineru now Mini

The Purfect Pair

My daughters had been wanting a cat for a long time. I finally felt they were mature enough to care for one and we immediately started our search for our furever friend. It felt like the longest few months of our lives. Every time we thought we found “the purfect one”, they would be adopted out to families before us and our hearts would be crushed. We were getting extremely discouraged, but never stopped searching. One day, I saw Minnie on the HSHV website and as soon as I got off work we went straight to see her. She was

Love at First Sight

When my dog Tank was about 1 1/2 we lost our older dog Remy. Tank grieved a lot longer and worse than we ever could have imagined. Tank stopped eating, his allergies couldn’t be controlled and he was just so sick all the time, so I thought I’ll go to HSHV and see if they have any dogs who would be a good match. I was worried because Tank got along with my 2 daughters’ dogs but not enough, so I was worried Tank would get worse due to jealousy. I looked at a couple of the dogs, but when

The Best Dog Around!

I adopted Molly on September 2nd 2021, and it was easily one of the best days of my life. Molly had only been at HSHV for six days when my mom and I showed up to look for an ESA (emotional support animal) to help me with my depression and anxiety. Molly was laying down in the last kennel in the hallway, looking up at us with her beady little eyes. She pawed at me through the kennel door and I knew she was the one. I was able to take her back to the dorms with me and she

Kitties get their forever home

Almost 2 years ago, my husband and I decided we wanted to bring a kitten into our home; we already had two loving dogs. We went to HSHV and did not make it much past the front desk before we met a kitten I knew would get her forever home that day. So starts the story of Persephone, Eris, and Pugsley. Persephone was an abandoned kitten who was left in a box with her mom when some kind soul found them and brought them to the shelter. Eris and Pugsley were fortunate not to have had a traumatic experience prior
