When you need a big brother

We adopted Cosette almost two months ago, and she’s an absolute joy. Especially to her big brother Henry. She is so smart, and it’s obvious she had an outstanding foster family! She has been an absolute joy.   Favabean now Cosette

Moose gets a forever family

Two years ago, my boyfriend was supposed to take me to the opening day Tigers baseball game. The game got rained out, and we instead decided to go look at the animals at the humane society! We really only went to look, but when we saw little Moose, we fell in love. I petted him through his cage, and he fell asleep in my hand. I knew then that he was going to be coming home with us! He’s now grown up, but he remains as friendly, cuddly, and rambunctious as he was the first day we brought him into

The Sweetest Senior

We adopted Jessa about four years ago. She was a stray and was so timid when we first got her. Lots of anxiety, and many accidents. Well, Jessa got more comfortable with our family and her new home, and she has been an absolute blessing. She is wonderful with my kids — so well mannered and has been such an amazing dog. We love her so much!

An update on Roxy

I adopted Roxy on 2/2/20. She is doing SO well! A few snippets: – Her walking has improved immensely. She topples over much less often but I’m still getting it looked at, to be safe. – She’s become more friendly with her fur siblings, the canine ones at least. I think she’s taken a particular liking to Benji (formerly Junior at HSHV). She is not fond of the cats and barks at them whenever she sees them. It’s a work in progress. – After several days of trying, I finally got her to take a Minty bone. She loves them

My best friend in the whole world

I went to the shelter to look at cats with my roommate 3 years ago, and Nebula caught my eye right away with her big blue eyes. As soon as I reached through the crate, she ran up to head-but my hand and started purring like an engine.

Levi Finally Finds His Forever!

Levi had a rough first year of life starting off as a Love Train puppy. He was brought back with minor injuries before his first birthday, and was adopted again right away only to be brought back shortly thereafter because he was so afraid he refused to eat and had lost at least 10 pounds. This is when we met “Teddy.” He was anxious, especially with my husband, but there was an instant connection between all of us. So on a rainy Saturday afternoon, we brought him to his new forever home. It has been a month now, and he

From Reactive To Rescuing Others

At the shelter, “Silas” was evaluated as needing to be the only pet in a home. As a pit bull mix, this made it even harder for him to get adopted. I’m so glad that the staff at Humane Society of Huron Valley were willing to consider my rescue experience and consider not just how he interacted with Ragnarok when we visited, but how I managed their interactions. It was far from a fairy tale meeting of dogs destined for brotherhood. They were growling, a little nippy, aggressive postures. By the end of the visit, the staff felt confident that
