Our missing puzzle pieces

We first got Owen and it was love at first sight. He was the first missing piece we found and we were so happy and excited to get him home. He became best friends with our miniature dachshund and they were best buds no breaking them up and because they both had separation anxiety they helped each other a lot. Then our miniature dachshund passed away and Owen was lost and sad, it broke our hearts and so when we were ready we came back to HSHV and that’s when we found Princess peach or as we call her Mama

Third Time’s the Charm for JoJo

When I first met JoJo I instantly fell in love with him. Upon bringing him home to my apartment, he immediately ran to hide under the couch and spent his first few days with me hiding and barely eating. But now, about 4 months later, he is just the sweetest cat. JoJo was specifically described to me as “not a lap cat”, but he begs to differ and crawls up onto my lap to cuddle or try to steal my food at least once a day. We spend every evening cuddling on the couch together before he follows me to

Kylo’s adventure

When we walked in we saw him reaching through the crate. We learned that he had been returned the day before and we knew we wanted to adopt him! Since we got him he was less than 2 pounds and really small and he’s now bigger than our full grown cat at 8 months old! He loves the outside and water strangely enough. He loves running in the snow and bothering his sister! Oh and car rides as well loves those. He’s our adventure cat! Colin Bridgerton now Kylo

Charlie found her forever home!

After having to put down our old dog due to severe illness and it being her time to cross the rainbow bridge several months ago, we were looking for our next furry animal! When I came to Huron Valley Humane Society, I saw Smudge and it was like love at first sight! We decided to change her name to Charlie as we have always loved the name. She has been spoiled with toys and treats since she made it home and we are so beyond thankful to have found such a great dog! She loves playing, walks outside, and sleeping

Transports of Joy is one of my nicknames

After a lifetime of being a dedicated “cat lady” we sadly lost our last kitty in January 2024 and the house was SO EMPTY! We had talked for years of getting a dog once the kitties were gone. It would be a first dog for both of us and while being considered “cat people” we are actually “animal people.” It took several months to find the right dog but finally a “what do they have today at HSHV” impulse stop and see revealed our future little boy. The first thing I saw were THE EARS, then the button eyes, we

Baby Boy Benny!

Mr. Benoit (or Benny, Bubby, or Puppy, interchangeably throughout the day) became a part of the family way back in April 2018. At the time, I was caretaking for my last surviving grandparent and we both were due for some fresh energy. I made a couple visits to the humane society, initially with my sets on an adorable pittie named Rudy before he was swiftly adopted. Out of both visits, Benny (then known as Charlie) caught my eye. He was the only pup who didn’t react—staring at me with longing eyes wanting to be loved. One more visit with my

Nora – the best part of My 2024

I met Nora on February 18th, 2024. I had been thinking about adopting a cat and went to HSHV several times to look around. Every kitty there was adorable and sweet in their own way – but I was waiting to get that special “feeling” when I met a cat! As soon as I sat down and opened the cage to visit with Nora, she crawled right into my lap, I started crying, and I knew I had to adopt my little girl. Every day since then has brought a new kind of joy into my life. Nora truly is

A Diamond In The Rough

My wife and I lost our wonderful red heeler, Rose, last year. She was a rescue from AuCaDo up north and when we made the decision to get another pup we knew we wanted to adopt again. We met several dogs through HSHV but it was so difficult to make a decision. One of my wife’s coworkers suggested making a list of the top traits that we considered important and the next time we went in to walk a few dogs one of the wonderful HSHV workers recommended that we meet Lily, who was Jolie at the time. She was

Two Stray Soulmates

My partner, Brad, and I started looking for a second dog when we noticed our first dog, Fauci, was lonely. At first, it was hard to pinpoint that he was yearning for another furry friend. Fauci can sometimes be reactive around other dogs, but the only time he would really perk up and act himself was on visits with my sister’s dogs. So we decided we’d set out to find a new member of the family. Fast forward to seeing Nuri’s description on HSHV. She was described as sweet, but very shy, and she “required” another furry sibling in the

Branz has found his forever home with us. We ĺove him.

My wife seen Brandyfoot online and we seen he had been there for awhile and been through some hard times. When she showed me his profile I was like, “We have to save him.” I am sooo happy we did get him. He’s so smart and by far the best dog I have ever owned. We love him with all our heart. He is a very happy puppy with us. He’s a little spoiled. Lol. And great with the grandkids. Brandyfoot now Branz
