Oh my clementine

The day I found out about clementine I just knew I had to meet her. That night I sent the wonderful foster family a text asking if we could meet her. I received a response right away and was able to arrange something for later that week. When I met this spunky, feisty girl she was the sweetest little angel who was not shy and came out and said hello. I got some kisses and she even took a little nap on me. I knew right then that I wanted her to live with me forever! At the time she

I love my sweet girl

I can’t believe it’s only been a month since we adopted her. She’s spicy and sweet, and the queen of the house. When I first adopted her, she didn’t like to be picked up or held. I kept her in a small room so she wouldn’t be overwhelmed, and spent lots of time with her. She eventually let me pet her, and then pick her up. I very gradually introduced her to my two other cats. Patrick, who was also adopted from HSHV, fell in love with her, but Tyrion wants to be the king of the house and isn’t

We found our forever best friend

Back in May (May 20th, 2024 to be exact), my boyfriend and I took a trip to the shelter. We were going to “ just look”. Needless to say, sweet Penelope stole our hearts immediately. Since then, we’ve had many ups and downs, adjusting as a family of three. But we could not be happier! She loves to cuddle, go for rides in the car and of course long walks!! And obviously she’s on Instagram @penelopethehuskyy Penelope, now Penelope Paige

So grateful for HSHV for bringing me Thomas

I got my kitty named LC (he’s Thomas now) when I was 19 here. HSHV trusted me to adopt him even though I wasn’t technically old enough at the time. That was back in 2016 and we’ve had 8 amazing years together. We’ve been on many adventures moving from Michigan to our apartment on the beach near Boston, MA now living with his dog brother Oliver who he loves very much, as of course, he loves everyone and everything he meets. Tom’s going into his golden years now turning 14 this year and I cannot thank HSHV enough for all

Oliver Blue Foster Failure 3/2012.

For about 6 years, 2008-2014, I was a puppy foster for HSHV. On March 24, 2012, the foster manager called and asked if I would be willing to take a male puppy, 9 weeks old, who wasn’t doing good with his siblings at another foster’s home and we said we would. Oliver Blue came into our home and decided he was here to stay. From that point forward he helped foster many of the puppies that came to us. He was very helpful with potty training and playing with them. Blue was very selective of the people he trusted. As

Gopher Guy’s journey!

On May 3rd (my birthday), my mom and I were scrolling the list of adoptable animals at Huron Valley. We were truthfully just looking at all the kitties names without thinking of adopting any as my father and I are allergic. However, when we saw Gopher’s photo we immediately knew we needed to know his story. Not much was known about his backstory other than he was really sick and had to have both eyes removed due to injury and infection. That was Friday, and at opening on Sunday morning we were there to meet Goph. He was still very

It only took 6 years of asking for a dog!

Last summer, after trying to convince my parents for six years that we should get a dog, we adopted August (we just call him Gus). I wrote letters to my parents, made a Google Doc presentation about the benefits and drawbacks of having a dog, and basically begged. For YEARS. And now we have one! Gus is doing great! He just had his first birthday and he is sitting next to me as I write this. He is very happy, and his butt is very floofy. Paco now August (Gus)

Fraggle, the sweet, laid back big boy

End of May 2024 we adopted Applejack, who is now Fraggle. Because of his rough life he looks a bit disheveled and plucked. He is missing some teeth, so his pink little tongue is sticking out constantly, which makes him all the more loveable. He was surrendered by a family who took care of him as he approached their house and they fed him in the garage. They could not take him in, but loved him and brought him to the Humane Society. There, we found our kitty! He is sweet, loveable, gentle and totally laid back and stole our

Uffda – 13 Years of Heavenly Joy

But The Joy Has Ended…. This will be the last Happy Tail about Uffda. He left the planet on June 28 when he had had enough of the cancer that was destroying his liver. Uffda (formerly Puma) and I met one fateful afternoon at HSHV in November, 2010. He and I knew instantly we were soulmates so he came home with me. Next morning I found him snuggled in behind my knees – he slept every night with me whenever we were in the same room, and sometimes that room wasn’t one in my home. He often came with me
