A cat does choose you. I went through multiple shelters and meetings and searched for almost half a year. I had gone to at least 3 different shelters on the day I found Loki. “Don’t pet his stomach, sometimes cats do that to test you and then they get uncomfortable if you do it.” is what the adoption counselor told me as she opened Loki’s cage. Almost immediately, Loki did his infamous flop and showed me his stomach. I remembered what she told me, but something in me told me everything was going to be okay. So I pet his stomach and he started purring and flopping and making biscuits. The counselor came back and said, “Oh wow, I think that’s the one.” I took him home right after. He was so shy and scared and hid for a couple of weeks. Once he got comfortable, he was almost like a different cat. He was super curious and explored everything, meowing the whole time. People who say they don’t like cats meet Loki and fall in love. Everyone who knows or met him develops a soft spot for him. He completes me, and I love him more than words can describe. He has grown so much and is so much more confident, playful, and bold, and even looks healthier. He even makes friends with other cats! I’m so proud of his growth and can’t wait to grow old with him. I’m so blessed to have little Loki and his tiny paws.
