But The Joy Has Ended….

This will be the last Happy Tail about Uffda. He left the planet on June 28 when he had had enough of the cancer that was destroying his liver.

Uffda (formerly Puma) and I met one fateful afternoon at HSHV in November, 2010. He and I knew instantly we were soulmates so he came home with me. Next morning I found him snuggled in behind my knees – he slept every night with me whenever we were in the same room, and sometimes that room wasn’t one in my home. He often came with me on road trips between Michigan and Massachusetts, and has also accompanied me on a trips to Philadelphia and Boston.

In late March I learned our lives together will soon end after 13 years. An x-ray revealed a tumor on his liver and bearing against his stomach. The vet gave me some meds to help keep him comfortable until he can take no more of it. As it was, he never flinched from any pain when handled and he maintained the will to accompany me at whatever I was doing around the house. He had the strength to jump onto the stovetop from the floor the last day of his life but his stamina was very limited.

Earlier this month the vet did a follow-up with ultrasound to note any changes. There were plenty, and all were for the worse. He left the planet while in my arms under the guidance of the vet’s skill. The picture here is one of the last I took of him.

Will there be adoptions in the future? I’ll leave that up to the other cat living with me (who came from a local humane society here in Massachusetts).
